eSata vs USB3
well what we do here all day long is benchmark stuff.
USB3 is by far faster.. now let me qualify that.
thre are 3 USB3 chipsets out now. it will depend on the chips in both the external drive case and on the Motherboard.
also eSata can be dog slow due to the same issue and with laptops the shared bus with USB.. and actualy the same on full systms as well. eSata almost always shares with USB resources...

I still don't understand how it could share more resources with USB than the internal hard drive as in my laptop both are controlled by the same SATA chip.also eSata can be dog slow due to the same issue and with laptops the shared bus with USB.. and actualy the same on full systms as well. eSata almost always shares with USB resources...

I saw this laptop in shop and I must say that they had to do unacceptable trade-off when making it lightweight. The screen feels like a piece of paper, when you pull it from one corner (and try to turn it down) the whole screen clearly bends, too flexible. I bet that one medium strong hit from back to the screen would break it.What do you think about this laptop, Sony Vaio SVS-1511?
So not an alternative, at least for me, I want a model with hard screen cover.
Any other news of DAW suitable laptops...? Currently I am seriously considering Asus N56VZ, which seems to be pretty popular, and very cheap too. Chipset and display adapter are the same than in Macbook Pro. I am just unsure of a few things: 1. it has only USB3 slots, can you make all the most important audio interfaces to work with the USB3 workarounds suggested in internet (disabling USB3 driver, installing Win8, etc..). 2. Is the fan noise of this laptop (under maximum load) in the same level as other similar laptops (Thinkpad E530, Macbook Pro, etc..). 3. those of you that have had this laptop already for a few months, can you live with the keyboard/touch pad or are they breaking already..? 4. I think it might have not that good quality WLAN or ethernet (Atheros), do these cause DPC spikes and if they do, does spikes disappear by disabling them...?

I must take this comment back as the 13" Vaio Z has quad core and weights only 1.2kg, but it is also 2800eur, far beyond poor musicians budget =Dgolemus wrote:probably the most lightweight PC with quad core i7 that I have seen.
