So Maxxbass can be had at www.wavesuniverse.com for just under $47 and I'm demoing it.

I'm wondering, for anyone that uses it, what are its strengths either over, or in addition to, conventional EQ?

I don't need an explanation of what it does, I've watched the video, I'm wondering more about what it brings to the mixing process that you can't get with a conventional low EQ.

Do you find that you can get a heavier bass but also more easily achieve a clear (not muddy) mix by using it?

Do you use it just to get some low end sound out of laptop speakers or earbuds, or is there more to it than that?

Thanks very much, I appreciate anyone's insight.

I own both bass enhancers but use the Renaissance Bass more. I use it only for bass and not all the time. It will make a heavier bass sound because of the adding off additional harmonics but it can also muddy the bass if used too much.

For me sometimes it works better to add some low frequency distortion instead of the MaxxBass. MaxxBass and Renaissance Bass are both nice plug-ins but this are not replacements for EQing. I use it only on single sounds (bass) not on the complete mix.

Although I'm a huge fan on one-knob-ponies, I'm with Theo here. Fixing upp a good bass sound with Maxxbass is very simple and quite organic as well. Together with a hipass filter, you have everything you need.

Yea, I guess I'm just not sold on it doing anything beyond making bass work better on smaller speakers, but maybe it makes bass "phatter" on all systems. I know they caution you that it can make things muddy on bigger speaker systems.

I'm torn but I have six days left on the demo. Maybe I'll discover that I don't want to do without it in that time.

The clever thing about it is that you can design a range of frequency that are to be captured, and moved up one octave. So you don't loose anything musically like you do when doing hipass cuts, not to get too much of lows.

So it helps making less highend listening equipment get a better sounding lows.

That's how I understood the theory. So it's nothing like an EQ at all.

I just tried if briefly but wasn't that impressed though. But a tool needs some work until I figure it out - so I will work more on that later.

With Renaissance Bass there are also some improvements in the psychoacoustic bass performance besides the simplified controls. Waves says "significant improvement" so it's not only MaxxBass with simplified controls.

IMO Renaissance Bass works a bit smoother.

EQs dont always do it right, which is where MB does it's magic.
Yes, but should you be using MaxxxBass?

:hihi:

(Yea, I know, weak...)

What kind of copy protection do these downloadable Waves plugins employ? C/R? iLok?
