(Pissed off means angry on this side of the pond :hihi: )

All of the sudden I see and hear about all these developers lining up to create plug ins for Reason. Now, I was fine when Reason was an all-in-one audio application. Not for me, for sure, but I could see the attraction with people who like to live with that type of limitation. Easy to become intimate with your tool. I get it.

But now, Propellerheads decided that it was their mission to create yet another plug in format, rather than just equip their software to one of the standard plug in formats that already exist. Why be mad? Because it's obviously draining developer time that could be spent on fixing existing bugs and adding functionality to existing VSTs or creating totally new ones. FFS, if you want to use a tool that lets you use plug-ins, there are a healthy crop of DAWs out that all offer fantastic functionality suited to any style of musician. :x

If I'm mad at anything, it's all these threads popping up about Reason.
But no, there's no reason for me to be mad at Reason.

Oh, just wait until devs realize how much of a pita it is to deal with this limited market and realize it's no longer worth developing for or supporting and then we'll have to deal with the deluge of whiners. I already see the "Why no ____ rack extentions?" posts. :?

Reason is a limited market - and even those who use it are often also working with other programmes where it makes more sense to use rewire and VSTs. Once there are ten compressors in the Re shop, you have to wonder how many sales there will be, and whether it will be worth it for anyone other than Propellerhead (this is, after all, their little wheeze at the end of the day).

Most plugin developers are plenty smart enough to think that through, and won't waste so much of their time chasing a fringe market. So I don't think you need to worry too much about this zerocrossing, honestly. I don't think it will be anywhere near as significant as all the hype would suggest (even a load of Reason users seem to be against Re for a variety of reasons, and many Reason users I know didn't buy any of them so far).

That would mean VST/etc have 90% of the market while "Re" is limited to 10%. And bear in mind also that the plugin market is completely saturated...

Take Uhe for example - he just keeps putting the Re products back onto the back burner, even though he was the one they featured in their launch! VST is simply the primary market.

Yeah, you're probably right about all this. I'm just sillily reacting to the recent onslaught of "why you no make RA version!?" comments I'm starting to see crop up.

New markets and opportunities is the kind of 'developer time draining' that keeps developers in business!

I'm sorry, but there are really nothing but pluses here all around, even for people who don't use Reason, imho.

Reason fans are a very vocal bunch. It's quite a cult thing for some of them. And Re is bringing them out of the closet and onto other forums.

It's actually hilarious - after years of saying they didn't want plugins, some of these same Reason fans are on every forum demanding them yesterday! But they will probably pipe down in a while. I'm pretty sure most of the Re buyers will realise there's no money left in the bank before very long ;)

For gawds sake !!!!
Lets see Syria has gone to shit, the Afghan war keeps going on and on.
The European economy has tanked, the weak justify the strong, we live in a political climate that favours corporate culture over the needs of the public, children die in third world countries and despots still rule.
Monsanto are assholes, we're on the cusp of global peak oil supply and in the middle of an obesity epidemic with huge numbers of people developing diabetes in the developed world.
Then there's racial profiling, the death penalty, incarceration rates for minorities and a slew of other problems revolving around illegal immigration and people smuggling and you're "Pissed off" by Reason.
Perhaps you should find an issue that's actually worth getting angry over ( you know just saying).
At the end of the day its just software, why get so het up about it ?

Topic answer: Not really.

What pisses me off is Reason Extensions not supporting SSE CPU instructions so it's unlikely we can get highly optimized plug-ins.
