Speaking of forums, I read a thread on the Propellerhead one yesterday that nearly made me wet myself... the OP suggested he was thinking of moving to Mac in which case he would get Logic and no longer need Reason.... how much was a fair asking price in the marketplace?

The answers were a series of thinly veiled attacks on him being a complete idiot for considering that choice, and one person after another lining up to say that Logic doesn't offer most of the great features that Reason has. Apparently the instruments and effects in Logic are non-existent/rubbish, etc, and the programme itself is "very limited compared to the power you have with Reason"...!

I guess that on any company/user forum you get ignorance and fanboys, but the sheer speed and number of them in the queue was extraordinary! And I've seen it so many times

The hardware section was FAR better (though some people were upset about the "beep/click click" problem) but all in all, a reasonable place. It was strictly the DP part I'm referring to.

If it's not like that now, groovy!
It's mostly all the same people in the different sections. There are a few on there who are quick to tell you to read the manual if it sounds from your post that you don't actually have a legal copy of the program. Piracy is not tolerated at all.

On occasion people can be quick to assume that you might be using a bootleg copy of the program if you are an unfamiliar forum member and your post has any "tells" to suggests that you don't have a manual (and often it seems they end up being right in their assumption). But generally, people are helpful and friendly, including the quick shooters, when they know you're on the level.

Maybe Smapletank 3, Bitwig, Digital Performer 8 and Ableton Live 9 will all be released at Winter NAMM?

Post

Of those 4, there is one that is vaporware for certain ;)

That's the Canadian edition. (And that's an inside joke that probably only works inside my own head.)

+ 1 to what Zedd said,
Motunation is a very friendly site with a great group of knowledgable users who do not support users of cracked software.
Once a poster is confirmed not to be using a pirated product I don't think there's a better DAW specific site for any DAW out there.
Like any site some users are more helpful than others and some can be obnoxious at times but overall it's a great forum.
Come back and check it out.

Unfortunately MOTU has never had a demo version, btw what mainstream DAW's actually have demo versions?
Does Logic or Cubendo offer demo versions??
I suspect most companies feel they'd have to either cripple the demo making it hard to evaluate or risk someone figuring out how to make it a free fully functional stolen pirated app.

Cubendo does offer demo. PT too, if you have the dongle.

Post

Well I guess PT keeps things secure with the dongle, and I might be incorrect but I think Cubase has many cracks in circulation being used.
It's a treachorous fine line the companies walk, use a dongle which many users hate and offer a secure demo or offer a demo without a dongle and risk pirated copies......

Which goes to show one shouldn't accept most opinions at face value.. especially one so easily shared as those on the interwebs. :)
