Hi Urs and all,

I've got a couple questions about ZHZ, and please forgive me if already answered earlier… I have not kept up with this (or the other) threads.

I have Z2.5, but I don't have Diva. ZHZ has the two new sections at the bottom, Diva VCF and VCA Comps. And it's also got the resonator. The VCF's appeal to me since I don't have Diva. I've heard the demo on the site, and the patches are awesome - congrats to Howard and HZ. So, my current assessment is that $99 for ZHZ buys the preset bank, but would also give me the filters that I don't currently have in 2.5… plus a few other goodies.

Here's what I may have missed in the various threads… Is Z3 going to include these filters? If not, will ZHZ live on, and thus continue to have updates, and perhaps update to a ZHZ2 at some point? It seems kind of strange to me that there would 2 different Zebra's moving forward. I suppose U-he was commissioned to do special mods for Hans Z, and so it must be kept separate?

Will Z3 have the Diva filters? If it will, I am considering waiting for it and not getting ZHZ.

Too many choices…… :)

Finally, the $99 is for current owners of 2.5, and there is not a discount for current owners?

Thank you,

Todd

Yes, if you have Zebra than you'll get ZHZ once purchasing the Dark Zebra soundset.

AFAIK yes, modified but with the same technology. and ZHZ is a separate product.

Z3 will have custom filters using the technology found in Diva. The update from 2.5 to 3 will be around $30 although that can change.

99 bucks for the Dark Zebra Bank + ZebraHZ, can't afford atm but seems to be worth it! :)

Hi Todd,

Zebra3 will not have the exact same filters as ZebraHZ or Diva. We will however add filters using the same technology, but not necessarily the very same character. Diva's filters are optimised to behave pretty closely to distinct analogue hardware ones, which we don't need to match in Zebra3. So we have more degrees of freedom in Zebra and we'll try to make them less CPU hungry at a similar level. Or we'd maybe make them less "authentic" but maybe more flexible.

The Dark Zebra is not cheap. Hans would probably block my caller id if we sold out any cheaper. We think it's a confident yet good price for the artistic value and momentum it has, and for the special version of Zebra that's included :)

We do contemplate however to make Zebra3 a free update to owners of Zebra 2.x and The Dark Zebra.

At some point in the not-so-distant future we'll unveil some details about Zebra3. There'll be a lot of programming and thinking before that 8)

I really hope Z3 keeps some of the character of the Bite filters. I love how nasty those things can get. Will the resonator make it into Z3? That thing has been fun to play with and really adds something.

The resonator will be one of the really big things in Z3. It'll go way further than what it does now.

We'll also have plenty of character, for sure!

A full blown resonant filter bank?

Sorry, won't say yet before we get the maths straight

Haha. No worries.

If you haven't done so already, have a look at NI's Prism - the Exciter + Modal Bank combo is quite brilliant for all kinds of convincing natural timbres, as well as more overtly synthetic stuff.

In fact, just completely rip that off and put it as a voice grid module in Zebra, sorted. ;)

The way these are set up is brilliant - interesting design and also effective, things really feel active but not random or generic. I'm curious as to how controlling breath or XYs is done in Hanz Zimmer's world.

Yeah, highly musical...

I would also be interested in recommendations for XY controllers ...
My BCF2000 doesn't cut it for those ;-)

Maybe that cool softstep? Not used to work with my feet so far though ;-)

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks Urs and 3ee to your responses to my earlier questions.

Now it's decision time!

I agree with Urs that the price for Dark Zebra fits the artistic merit of the project. Thank you Urs and Howard for this.

This is really not like anything else I've ever seen before. It feels a little like the 21st century version of getting the original manuscript for a Bach sonata.

In that respect having 3.0 be a free upgrade for owners of Dark Zebra is pretty phenomenal.

Not holding you to it at all, Urs, but very cool to even consider it.

Thanks

$200+100+ 0 (update z3)= 300

$200+100+30= 330

30x1000customers= $30,000

People who can afford Z2+HZ can afford a 30 upgrade. CHARGE FOR THE UPDATE YOU CAN GET A NEW CAR
