Not yet. Mostly because i use FL Vocodex, but you said you don't like very ringy and unnatural voices. That's the main reason i didn't suggest to you. It is my prefer one for now.Gonga wrote:MDA Antares Throat
Hi Irion, do you have a tune on SC where you've used the MDA vocoder?
The others, TAL Vocoder, and some others are ok.
If you want i could make a little example about how it sounds any of them.
But what are you looking for exactly?
All vocoders or most of them make the same thing, and they change the sound of a voice or a drumloop drastically. Could you put a Youtube video with a song about the effect you are going behind?
It is a bit difficult to get a natural result with a vocoder.
So let me know, please, i will try to help.
Well, i can make it sound "alike" to a vocoder, carrier and modulator, it works the same.Spitfire31 wrote:A Talk Box is not a vocoder or even close.IrionDaRonin wrote:Do you mean a TalkBox then?
There is one for free in the MDA plugin bundle.
Check it out.
Good luck![]()
It's an electroacoustic gadget, mostly for guitarists, consisting of a loudspeaker feeding a flexible tube that the performer puts in his mouth, using his/her oral cavity to modulate the audio and recording the result via a microphone.
Returning to the question of the OP, I just bought the Waldorf Lector (they had a 30% discount last Friday) and it's extremely competent, offering the whole spectrum from slightly coloured, intelligible voice to mindblowing mauling.

I said Talkbox because it was the name of the plugin itself. I know a real talkbox is what Bon Jovi used on "It's my life" track.
I suggested that little thing because Gonga wanted a non very typical vocoder sound.
But thanks for correcting me.
Have a good day

A bit pricey, but this is the one for that vintage vocoder sound.

I also use Vocodex, and NI's retired Vocoder. But maybe you should look at Speakerphone?

It's the only vocoder I knew I had to buy immediately after trying the demo for a matter of minutes.hakey wrote:$279 / €219electro wrote:How much is it? That shop page is giving a virus warning.hakey wrote:+1electro wrote:Anybody heard of ELS?

head and shoulders above the rest - but about three times more than I'd pay and it's dongled...Goseba wrote:It's the only vocoder I knew I had to buy immediately after trying the demo for a matter of minutes.

There are a couple that come to mind. Vocadex from IL. Easy to use. Predator FX. The fx version of Predator. NI Razor. Razor has a nifty vocoder, but NI and midi and me and FL have never got along well. Then there's ElectraX which has one of the best this side of the MicroKorg. I'm trying to convince Tone2 to release a separate Fx version because now, you can only load waves into it. I told them to call it VocoX. It would be nice...

Ingonator and myself recommended Lector in this thread: = 2 recommendationsttoz wrote: only seen one recommendation for lector so far, and i think maybe people forget about it.. but i hear it's terrific, and is up to date, 64 bits etc. give that a demo! there is a fully functional demo version for 30 days or something.
A lot to tweak and well worth a demo session!

Except that's not what you're looking for and you probably don't understand what a vocoder is or does. What I think you're looking for is a pitch shifter/harmonizer of some sort. A vocoder applies the formant of a signal over another signal so that's why they can sound very roboty and synthetic. You're imposing the formants of a voice over a synth or some other instrument. Of course, if you choose a sound that's got harmonic content that's in the realm of the human voice and use a lot of bands you can get in the neighborhood, but I don't think that's what you want.Gonga wrote:I'm sorry, I should have given more specifics. Anyway, I like the Antares products and Virsyn's Klon. Both can give "natural" sounds in real time, but if you want something really natural sounding you'll need to use something like Melodyne.
