Are you sure you only have one instance of VB3 loaded?MikeCL wrote:ok got the solved thanks, but now I have another issue the built in midi keyboard (alt+b) for some reason with the reverb turned off I still hear it? Like none of the settings seem to take effect using the midi keyboard in the program.

Well that's weird. Doesn't happen to me!MikeCL wrote:100% Sure
I'm sure Reaper isn't throwing reverb on there by default.

going to see what happens this morning with reaper on the other pc.. its not just the reverb but other things like the Lelie speed, vibrato have no effect in reaper lol
hmm well I closed and deleted the track and added a new one and it worked fine this time around...
That was really odd.

Wow, that's still a lot. Ultimately it's the Behringer that's the limitation. I don't know anything about that device, but you probably don't want to hear how I feel about the brand. (I get 1.2 ms or something like that on my Edirol UA-1000 in Reaper.)MikeCL wrote:Seems to be ok but still in reaper I can only go as low as 18ms my buddy says its fine now
Is this with the ASIO driver? What buffer size does it show in the audio driver preferences?
What happens if you switch to WDM driver and set the buffer to 1 x 128 samples? If that works, can you do 96? 64? I can actually get slightly lower latency with WDM with Reaper than by using Edirol's ASIO driver.

I did not think about switching drivers I was in a bit of a rush to install reaper and get everything setup like I had late last night. About as soon as I was done 5 min later he came in and started playing for the duration of the service It's pretty much the same as forte but a recorder.
I will be bringing the system home this weekend to install the SSD drive and 320GB drive so it again will get a fresh format, however windows 7 has only been installed for a few weeks.
The interesting part about the about the Behringer is it uses some decent chips for it's costs, and at the time I needed something cheap and decent.. I'm sure some other stuff is decent but I'd have to know for sure I can lower the latency lower and not find out I can't say do lower then 18 ms without issues.

I've had some time to think about this..
to slim it down some I going to use a laptop this time with a Intel i3 2Ghz and a novation impulse 61.. Question is if I hook the impulse up via USB then it becomes my controller so how does latency fit in going that way?
Other factors I noticed was say My friend has a Motif 6 and he plugs his gear into the headphones out so he can control from his end, I noticed I needed to run higher up on the board when I used my usb audio controller, knowing how most laptops don't have that great of an headphones output should I keep my usb audio or try to find something a bit better?

I am now using the ultimate VB3 controller. A Korg CX-3 (the 2000s model, not the early 80s one that's in Spinal Tap).
Had one a few years ago but had to let it go. Sacrifice CORRECTED!
I jam my ESQ-1 up underneath it to make a full dual manual "Hammond". (This photo is from a few years ago when I was using a DX-7 for the same purpose. Just like the ESQ-1, it has a nice organ like action with just the right amount of weight and spring, and it's flat on top so no knobs to knock off with my dual X stands that just manage to fit together perfectly for this.)

Not a factor. (MIDI adds a ms or two of latency at most.) Worry about your audio driver latency. MIDI is always effectively "instant".MikeCL wrote:Question is if I hook the impulse up via USB then it becomes my controller so how does latency fit in going that way?
Note that headphone output is MUCH hotter than "line level" outputs, and is also expecting a much lower impedance on the input than headphones. I would always recommend using an external "semi-pro" audio interface rather than the crap that comes built into computers.I've had some time to think about this..

Oh there's so many these days. And so many factors. How many channels do you need? What type of computer interface would you prefer (USB, Firewire)? Etc.MikeCL wrote:Which audio device do you recommended?
I've had good success with USB 2.0 Edirol interfaces (now Roland). Presonus apparently make good stuff. Focusrite too. And of course M-Audio for the lower end, which should still have pretty decent low latency performance.
There's plenty of other brands I'm probably forgetting. Lots of choices, but I've been happily working on this same 10x10 Edirol UA-1000 for the last 10+ years with still no reason to move to anything else. (I actually used all 10 inputs... once!
Something like this would probably be a good starting point... $128 street price.

Both good brands. I'm sure either will work just fine and have nice low latency. I'd probably go for the Focusrite, but that's just on reputation, haven't tried either of them myself.MikeCL wrote:Well I'm looking at these here

Yeah I'm leaning more to the Focusrite too bad you have to move up one model to get the one with the multiple LED audio meters but no big deal.AdmiralQuality wrote:Both good brands. Hopefully it will work well on a i3 dual core laptop that's 2.3 Ghz I'm hoping for sub 10 ms times.. I can't remember what I had on my desktop setup.. I want to say it was 13-15 ms
