Also to Peter how will Arc 2 help in larger less than ideal rooms?

Fwiw i too think the upgrade price is a little on the steep side and is why i want to try a demo prior to upgrading. The jam points will definitely help soften the blow though. ;)

But yes, a demo would definitely help. Cheers!
It should work well in a larger room. I suppose I should have you qualify how large... I'm not sure a HUGE arena would be easy to tame, but a large control room should be fine. I believe the largest I'm hearing about success with now is 14'x16'with 10' ceilings, just a couple of diffusors not really treated.
20'x16'with 15' ceilings. :help:

It's my living room and kitchen but it's broken up with furniture and walls and i have panels behind my desk and either side of my monitors. The walls and ceilings are fully insulated and there is carpet on the floor so it's actually not a bad space. So i'm using Arc as full treatment is not an option and it helps but methinks it is asking a bit too much of Arc. :)

More accurate low end and greater mid/hi resolution seems like a no-brainer upgrade as it could save the cost of a monitor upgrade in the short term but is Arc 2 better at dealing with larger less-than-ideal spaces than 1? That is basically why i want to try it, it will help me determine a few thing with my set up. Cheers!

In case anybody is interested, I wrote a blog post about my measurements before and after ARC/ARC2:

I could at least try to ask, Peter. ;)

The ARC mic and a ECM8000 are totally different mics. The ARC mic is actually quite good for recording whereas the ECM8000 has lots of noise and 'unnatural' hi frequencies.

Just sayin'
Is that a fact of hear-say or does it come from own measurements?

Because, the ECM8000 is mentioned as great alternative on several boards - both highend and lowend (e.g. GearSlutz). Not all Behringer stuff is crap - and I should know, I use plenty (does that make me a crap engineer?).

Then again, agreed - it's not the only measurement mic with that price tag. This is why I brought it up in the first place, because else IKM would make zero to no income with a bundled 400bucks mic.

Never directly compared it in written form or said that it's the same.

BTW:
Nice measurement. Still I'd see both speakers in "context" and not one alone. Why not layer both left/right frequency responses with a graphics program to see faster what's up?

I also like the idea with the cloth - are the markins symmetrical? And are they within the speaker range (horizontal) or a little bit outside (which I like to do with my measurements). Else the hotspot seems a bit small.

Thank you! Very telling measurements, and they tally with what I've seen and heard in the bass register. Big and worthwhile difference from ARC 1!

Nice trick with the laser pointer, too… ;-)

Best,

Great idea with the laser pointer, maybe Ik can build one into the next version of the mic. :hihi:

Nice, thanks for the comparison!

In your report, interesting that the white "after" line of ARC2 in the higher frequencies has more variance than the totally flat one in ARC1. I suppose the graph in ARC2 is just more accurate. I see in your graphs this is the case.

Also, what did you use to create the freq response and waterfall graphs?

Thanks!

Phantom-powered laser pointers!

Unbelievable idea with the laser pointer! Elicited the following reaction (sorry to bring the thread to a meme reference...):

But scared of this...

You're welcome!

I use the REW software: http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/ ... -page.html

But not with the same rig, right?

Because REW runs independent while ARC needs to be part of a VST host. Unless REW has a slot for VST ports now? Maybe care to elaborate what your setup is in this case?

I use Audio Hijack pro.

I think I found a bug: disabling the correction by pressing the 'Correction on' button sounds different from bypassing the plugin. Anybody can confirm this behavior?

I can confirm that the new Monitor section is apparently after the Correction on/off button. So, if you switch off Correction, the monitoring level adjustment is still active until you bypass ARC 2 completely in your mixer insert.

OTOH, I don't think this is a bug but rather a feature. Though you need to remember to bypass ARC 2 completely (not just disabling Correction) when bouncing, since otherwise you will probably affect the level out from your Master bus. Not good… ;-)

andiw: very useful graphs. I just wondered is it possible to do a difference graph i.e. one subtracted from the other to see the difference between the original and arc 1 and arc1 and arc 2

I don't know if that's possible with REW but I updated the blog post to show 2 more graphs with less smoothing and comparison between ARC and ARC2.
