Well Reason is what it is, and you buy it for what it is, you certainly did. If you look for VST support, and a more complete sequencer application, you look for something else. I seriously can't imagine any reason why Reason should support VST's... maybe in some versions, Reason will be complete enough to be able to compete with other sequencers, but until then...myrna wrote:
Because there is no other reason. Live was rock solid until version 4. And now it hosts plugins. FL was kind of a reason-thing toy, then it started supporting plugins, and you see the difference, more complete and professional than reason for sure nowadays. Orion supports plugins. Everything supports vst in 2012, but Reason: guess why
Are you pissed off at Reason?

FL more "professional" than Reason......um, suuuuure. Whatever that means.myrna wrote:.... more complete and professional than reason for sure nowadays. Orion supports plugins. Not because they don't want it, but because they can't: as soon as reason hosts vst it will crash immediately (weakness of code, i guess?).
I do know why the Props don't want VST's. They saw a format where developers could concentrate on one system while coding. That ability will allow them to do some absolutely amazing things in the future. Maybe not this generation but in future products, don't be surprised if VST users are saying the same thing to developers in regard to features in Reason but not for an extension that has to support multiple DAW's.

So? I've never heard of that VST, developer or website. Whatever it does, I'm sure there will be an equivalent in Reason in due time.

I must admit that i believe that Reason is close before death, when i read stuff like that. At least they get themselves way aside, if the developers don't play their game... that's why i'm asking: Why open up? It does a damn good job for what it is. And those who don't want to be limited to this environment have many alternatives.

Yeah, I know you think everyone would know every VST and you missed the point. I'm a Reason user that has most every need filled. Everything else are just.....options. Not EVERY option needs to be available for users to be happy. As a matter of fact, I would say that there is a pretty sizable community that appreciates a smaller faction of options to keep from suffering "VST Syndrome" and lost time.myrna wrote:PB2000 wrote:

I've got no numbers and neither anyone else, and from the tone of those deformed interviews, it would be unwise to follow through with your time and money as a developer (already kept in the dark as to where their RE are going to...). Best is to wait, and if we all do that.... what happens?

I think that most of us knows that VTSis can be a hardcore addiction. I have my Orion filled with redundant synths that I could not help myself buying just because they were there and they sounded good. Basically I could do most things with the onboard synths of Orion. In this respect it is bliss that at least one DAW remains self-contained like Reason do and do not offer the temptations of VST support. For all I know I could even do without the few REs I have bought. It is even more of a bliss when a program like that has such amazing features like Reason has: The rack based graphics, the modular approach, the synth and sampler modules, the studio effects, the vocoder, the voice synth, the cv gate step sequencer, the arp, the ability to transpose and stretch audio tracks in real-time, the mixer, the ssl section and not at least the light CPU use. Boy you gotta be an untalented, unskilled, unwise, unmusical and unbelievable stupid amateur if the lack of VST supports prevents you from getting something out of all this. In this respect, I am more than happy that PH hasn't let the lunatics taken over the asylum. Just stay on course PE and ignore the noise of the masses.

That's completely up to you. I work predominantly in Ableton these days and have the Suite... I use mostly the included synths and effects and have bought very few extras. In terms of VSTi in fact I only bought two: Pianoteq and GPO. That's it. Each of those adds something very specific... something that the Ableton Suite didn't provide, and which in fact there is nothing in Reason or in the Re shop that could replace either of them effectively either.IncarnateX wrote:I think that most of us knows that VTSis can be a hardcore addiction.
So VSTi simply gave me the option to make up for a couple of specialist things I need. Eventually, perhaps some years down the line, Re might offer the same, but right now it mostly just offers more of the same stuff that Reason could already do.
In the end though, it is up to the customer/musician to decide whether to buy extra stuff, whatever the format. If you waste money on stuff you don't need, then the Re shop is going to dent your wallet just as surely as VSTs do. The answer is simply to learn a bit of restraint and self-control.
The irony here is extraordinaryIn this respect it is bliss that at least one DAW remains self-contained like Reason do and do not offer the temptations of VST support. For all I know I could even do without the few REs I have bought.

Really ? What part of the word "few" is it you do not understand? Point is Reason is self-contained and do not need either VST nor REs.headquest wrote:The irony here is extraordinary

Wasting money? Self control? And that comes from a guy that never should have bought Reason in the first place and now tries to compensate by whining about it in every possible thread. And no, the REs will not deplete my wallet for sure, if for nothing else then the fact that they eat up too much CPU and that eliminates one of the best reasons to use Reason when you are on a netbook like me.headquest wrote:. Why should I have never bought Reason?? Because I don't want Re?
I've used it happily for years, continue to happily use it, and have earned plenty teaching it.
Weird judgements...

That's too bad. RE's are enjoyable and, even in their infancy, a nice addition. However, if you already have a collection of VST and enjoy another environment, that's great too.liquidsound wrote:I'm sorry but the only Syndrome here is RE Syndrome.

Dreaming will not help those "Thousands of Developer" (anyone has a list of those?) to follow a "market reality" based on YouTube CEO marketing videos.
Go ahead and bookmark this page for future reference. As a past CEO myself, I'll go with the word of a colleague of a very successful company that is very tuned into his market share, growth potential and development considerations over a user that can't quite grasp the big picture of what those development consideration are.
