Haven't you seen how many - seriously - poor people are living in Berlin? Really not? Where have you been?Uncle E wrote:I'm sorry to hear that. tbh, that's not what I experienced when visiting Berlin but maybe that's an anomaly?Tricky-Loops wrote:I rather ask people of how much income they get, and there are only a few people who earn 2,700€ a month or more. If you would have been in Munich or Starnberg and would say, there are loads of rich people, then maybe I could agree. But in Berlin, actually there are (too) many poor people.

Average salary is really LOW in Berlin. Nowhere near 2700, not even close. That's the truth, believe it or not.Uncle E wrote:[

When I first visited Berlin in 1996, East Berlin was a lot rougher than the last time I was there (which I think was in 2008 or 2009), yet even then it seemed more bohemian than run down. I've been to Frankfurt, Munich, Cologne, Stuttgart, and I think some other places, and I've always considered Germany to be a place of prosperity, development, and growth. From this American/Chinese/Norwegian's point of view, you live in a lovely place!Tricky-Loops wrote:Haven't you seen how many - seriously - poor people are living in Berlin? Really not? All that said, I do believe what you're saying and am sure there's a side of it that I'm not seeing. Similarly, you could visit Los Angeles and see nothing but 10 million dollar mansions, and that wouldn't give you any indication of what's happening in South Central, Watts, or Compton.

For the poor people, Germany is still one of the best places (because of our financial social assistance)! OTOH, you have not the chances to get really rich as you would have in the United States.Uncle E wrote:When I first visited Berlin in 1996, East Berlin was a lot rougher than the last time I was there (which I think was in 2008 or 2009), yet even then it seemed more bohemian than run down. BTW, Berlin and Los Angeles at least have one thing in common: There are the most music producers of the whole country...

To say that the crack of a plugin scheme has an existential effect (e.g. life threatening) on sales is only pretext, always. If it was only that, why then has a certain company entrapped so many studios into committing license infringement before that, and put the whole industry in such a filthy light? In fact, I believe that the companies that run into dead ends do so by just one thing, greed a.k.a. shareholder value.

The mean is very likely to be biased by both extreme high and low incomes. It would be more interesting to know the median, or the interquartile mean.Tricky-Loops wrote:That formula is too complicated for me...Uncle E wrote:Total money earned by legal aged German citizens / number of legal aged German citizens = average income of legal aged German citizensTricky-Loops wrote:There is no "average income" in Germany of 2,700€, that's nonsense.
Maths.(joke beside, of course I do know math!!)

I see strangely consistent sales volume too... though there's a yearly window over the top that scales things a little - people are less likely to buy things when they're away on holidaysUrs wrote:Well, I don't know. We don't see any effect of the global economy, of market saturation or anything on our sales structure. We have surprisingly constant sales month to month, which vary about +/- 5% and sometimes spike +50% when there's a new release. It has been like this for the past 9 years with only a single exception: Once I tried not to use Google Adwords for three months and sales collapsed. I'll never make that mistake again.
Google Adwords makes that much of a difference?

Here's a no vote, because: multicore computing qith 16,32,64 cores are going to make new effects possible, and when companies first make them, they have to recuperate the development cost. Simpler plugins will probably drop in prices though.
With regards to rapidshare, well someone once gave me a link to an indiana jones movie online, so I watched it, not knowing much at the time. It was in Vimeo. It took me hours to get rid of the viruses afterwards, and some of them were so deep they reappeared much later, I learned my lesson. I reformatted the disk and reinstalled Windows. Some studios won't care about that, I guerss, and that's not my business, but people working on schedule for a production really can't afford that.

there is both, professionals, who are always on the edge and so they use mainly illegal copies of software instruments, hosts and effects and professional studios, whose owners make a lot of money, where you don't find a single licensed file, but a lot of 'warez'. here on the island you can't even buy legal music software in the stores anymore.Urs wrote:To say that the crack of a plugin scheme has an existential effect (e.g. life threatening) on sales is only pretext, always. yesterday my girlfriend's son, who does hiphop with a legal copy of Ableton Live Intro, told me, his mate and co-rapper got Live Suite 8 installed with all the additional stuff, illegally downloaded. our kid didn't complain about his 'situation'. what a relief!
