So do Sonar's PC extensions, and AAX from Cubase, and....

This constant whining of yours is really getting tiresome.... :?

You really need to get your story straight - you've claimed that Propellerhead are so technically incompetent that they couldn't even implement a standard and that they're thieving bastards to boot. Why would you care about lock-in if you have no trust in the company's competence or character in the first place? Comical. *crosses arms, waits for prissy emoticon-fest*
it's not comical when you try to be honest. Just wonder if i had to throw away my omnisphere, komplete and pianoteq (etc.) only because not vst and working exclusively in reason :hihi:

Luckily we have one standard (vst), it works and it is more than enough for dynamic musicians. Like MIDI. The rest (REs, aax, AU etc.) are just marketing operations, good for fanboys, a pain in the ass for musicians.

P.S. i've heard you cannot even resell REs, right? ... :?

What you going to do when VST becomes version 3 as standard and all your 2.4 FX become useless and redundant Hmmm, bet you didnt think of that one. Everyone knows this a shift to each software forms own native fx Type, you know, AAX, PC.. :?

wait, you mean a daw cannot load both vst2 and vst3? Which one? I only knew some daws cannot host vst3 yet, but in the future... not the contrary. :-o

I actually heard somewhere that after a while some developers are going to drop off support for vst2.4 due to the age I think like whats happening to DX+DXi and so I guess format wise Some hosts might only ending up providing support for just VST 3 version fx and so the other 2.4 would eventually just get phased out, like everythings going 64 bit and eventually 32bit FX will also get phased out more than likely. Sonar still supports DX+DXi because a lot of its previous fx bundles rely upon it such as the Psyn and pentagon. Eventually to keep up with others it will have to drop the format because its ancient and maybe have to drop the various FX related to it. Also there is no news as to them being updated so who knows, perhaps thats why they are advertising for new developers for so called "New Ideas".

ok, in this case it is just an improvement, nothing else, the standard remains, and of course my spectrasonics, native instruments etc. vst instruments will be updated. Thanks. I don't know about other standards apart vst, sorry. Maybe in USA? here there is only one standard (vst), the rest (AU, AAX etc.) are considered just copycat's derivative pseudovst.

BTW...if one is fearful of things going obsolete one can use what they have and just run it as an archival system.

I have a PII system here loaded with a tracker program hosting a number of older VSTi's...

Sorry, but the thread is "are you pissed off", not "how I adore reason". And that thing is not funny. is it? Aren't you pissed off at that? Only fanboys can accept this policy... :?
