Agreed. Others may be foxued on the encryption. I am focusing on the the metadata for finding sounds in all the libraries which is, at least in my installation, apparently closed and proprietary. Thus any time put into adding metadata for one's own sounds locks the creator into using this software, or the work has to be repeated.

This is not about Kore/Maschine. This is about encryption and library formats. They have to change it, because K5 provides new features. But why re-encode libraries in a newer format, which does not require these features is beyond me. If not to force customers to buy newer version of kontakt... ;) For example there is Alicias Keys. When they released it, it was encrypted to K4 format. After release of K5 they re-encrypted it and made the K5 a requirement. But the samples/piano itself did not change. So this was clearly only to force the users to upgrade.

And then there is their policy, to encode new stuff always to their newest format. Even if the instrument does not require any features from the newer version.

Don't take me wrong. I love and use NI's products. This thread was only about whether it's a good idea to upgrade kontakt now or wait for the next version.
What part of what I said don't you understand? The reason Alicia Keys was re-encoded from the K4 format, was to make it compatible with Maschine. That is a FACT.

Kontakt does not come on a hard drive. You're talking about Komplete 8 Ultimate. There's regular Komplete 8 which doesn't come on a hard drive. So, you have an OPTION of what to buy, but rest assured that there's nothing out there that can compete with K8U in what you get for the price. You simply get an abundance of material that nobody else offers on quite the same scale. That is a fact, and you cannot diminish it. Sampletank is far away from Kontakt in what it offers.

Seriously, you don't have to barge into every thread where NI is mentioned and add your butthurt whining in it just because what happened on NI forums (yes, you're acting butthurt).

If its a fact, it doesnt quite make sense to me. Are you saying Kontakt4 isnt compatible with Maschine, or that it cant open its libraries when running in Maschine?

if it didnt have the samples i want, why on earth would it be an option?

Well it's too late now for the crossgrade deal. I'll wait until K6 to crossgrade...only if I find a library to die for that must use a full version of Kontakt.

I fooled around with the K 5 demo and the factory selection content..it's not impressive in comparison to products I already own. So the only purpose of Kontakt for me would be for use on 3rd party libraries that absolutely require Kontakt.

Kontakt 4 still has the old (and good) Kore-style database. So no, it's not compatible with Maschine, at least when tagging and database are concerned.

But can you still load and use your libraries inside Kontakt inside Maschine?

I don't know, don't have Maschine. Sorry. :)

I would suspect that you could, though. The database is the only difference between K4 and K5 in this regard, methinks.

cheers. i dont either, which is why i was curious.

Its to do with the level of integration. I'm not a Maschine user either, but my understanding is that Kontakt libraries in the new format have patches visible within the Machine browser, where K4 format libraries would just show Kontakt

Yes, and if someone made the effort they could create a Kontakt 4 library using Maschine format, just as a few of us have done for Kontakt 5 in Kore. There is no intrinsic reason for any library to be incompatible, it's just that NI didn't supply the patches out of the box.

AND? Where does this change the FACT, that I cannot use it in my full kontakt 4 only in the limited kontakt 5 player?

I do not care about Maschine or Kore compatibility. However I do care about usability. Please. If they had to re-encode it only for Maschine compatibility, than offer both versions and let the customer decide what he/she needs/wants.

All the companies that adhere to corporation-like philosophy will eventually end up in a banana land [that is - broke], due to insatiable human nature, especially in these idiocracy driven times [unless you have loads of money and everything "latest and greatest", you're not "cool"]. They use their former fame to use and abuse their customers [or followers...]. See: DigiDesign, on their way to banana land, praise the banana. At some point it comes to an over-abuse, due to human beings being as greedy and insatiable as they are, and the users will start using some other product. Like I did. Remember that and stick to small companies, 3rd party software like U-he. You will never get disappointed by them. Except in rare occasions, which is normal. Nothing is 100% sure in this world, just more or less sure... Personally, I've started using Reaper's own native sampler instead of Kontakt. Libraries? I don't need them, I create my own unique sounds. It takes more time, but it's worth it in the end.

I have nothing against bananas, actually, I love them. They're good for digestion, cure against hypertension, and a great sweetener. They make perfect jam when squashed.

My advice is, as soon as you can't take the shi* any more, take a banana since it works great against constipation, buy and use some 3rd party software or even free or Open Source software, and shi* freely and regularly. It's good for ya. Prevent yourself further trouble, and keep the wallet full for more important stuff like good food, wine and travelling, having a great time.

Cheers!
