never seen such "display ports" on other computers apart apple ones, actually.
and how is what you've seen a relevant factor in whether something is defined as an industry standard?
Microsoft Surface with Windows 8 Professional: 10.6-inch ClearType HD display; 64GB/128GB storage; microSDXC, USB 3.0, Mini DisplayPort Video ports; and 2x2 MIMO antennae. Weighs 903 grams and is 13.5 mm thick.

here you can download it, much cheaper?

that is not logic pro. It still costs 500 dollars (the complete option, including appleloops, mainstage etc.).
Incorrect, the 'complete option' is called Logic Studio, not Logic Pro.

Or buy these models fully loaded from the factory so there's no reason to wish you could upgrade. As for environmental issues, Apple does pretty good compared to most of the computer industry. Recycling aluminum computer bodies is easier than trying to find someone to recycle the plastic cases of other machines (& I'm glad Apple stopped making their own plastic machines). I'm aware of the glued-in battery on the retina MacBook Pro and that bothers me, but that has more affect on the user getting the battery replaced (pay for service at Apple) than the environment (no doubt the glue is gross but so is the battery).

I use logic studio, then. i thought it was called logic pro, different from the express (but I bought it on dvds box). Now logic is only logic? No more "express" and "pro"?

wait, thunderbolt is a new technology, it should replace the failed "firewire" technology in the future. I don't mean that. I mean this:

"standard" for me is when you can use something wherever you want, for instance bolts, midi, vst, cd, usb, bankomat, music notation, 440 A diapason, 6 string guitars, road signs etc. No?

DisplayPort & Mini DisplayPort are both standards that can be used in many places if said hardware is recently made.

Also, FireWire didn't "fail," ThunderBolt supports Mini DisplayPort, and Logic Studio is available on the Mac App Store for $199 (excluding the canceled Soundtrack app & the MainStage application which is separately available).

mhh ok, maybe in the USA? Here firewire has failed, everyone uses usb, much more professional and easy. I, too, had to change firewire audio sound cards when i thought they were the best professional choice. It was not true, because firewire gave me issues every time (crackles, loss of power... the need to plug it in with mac switched off, the danger if you don'do like that etc., the need to be powered, the pins, four, six, eight, whatever... etc.). Even RME now produces pro audio with usb ports.
Regarding those mini diplay ports, here in Italy i've seen them only on mac, actually. Maybe in USA the apple fanboysm in stronger than in other places? For me macs are only machines, nothing else. That is why i am disappointend: i don't give a damn about i-whatever, think different philosophy, jobs mythology and all the crap, sorry. I just use them.

If you have external monitor, make sure you get the cables needed to use it with your MBP.

are you talking about a sound monitor here?
I guess he means "external screen"... Apple products have a strange not standard little plug, so you have to buy an apple monitor or a stupid adapter for analog or digital external monitors. And the results are awful with big ones: cloning the screens is useless, since apple's video boards are crap, and you can't work with it. if you want a decent resolution you have to choose the double monitor option. A painful situation
Exactly what I meant.

... but it is ugly. It is not like microsoft clear type. Mac "smooth" option seems like... commodore 64 :D
Just admit it: it is a gap, like the stupid uncomfortable one button mouse :?

You can get that same Mini Display port > Dvi or whatever half the price off amazon, works exactly the same thats what I've got and its perfect
Anybody can do anything if they set their mind to it

PS: Mac graphics aren't a problem. If you attach an external LCD, ensure you run it at the LCD's NATIVE resolution. Any resolution other than native will look blurry on any OS and any computer. That's how LCDs are. CRT on the other hand looks blurry all the time unless it's a really fantastic CRT (though color and blacks are better on CRT).

sorry, but that is not true. I remember years ago, I had a little more than crappy 10' MSI windows xp netbook, and wherever you attached it, the screen was always clear and nitid. Only macs have this issue.
