1. Text antialiasing is a bit personal. I have no problem with Mac OS X smoothing. I disliked the smoothing on BeOS, though. ClearType is a type by Microsoft based on technology licensed from Apple (Wozniak patented the sub pixel smoothing algorithms apparently).myrna wrote:... but it is ugly. Just admit it: it is a gap, like the stupid uncomfortable one button mouse
2. Apple has lousy mice. No argument. I used to bring my own to class when I had art school way back with the "puck" style mice on the original iMacs and original Steve Jobs Power Macs. You don't have to use them. Track pads work well for me until I need to do a lot of moving around. Then I use a Wacom tablet with its own mouse and stylus or a cheap USB optical mouse.
It sounds like you're pretty pissed off at computers. I feel for you. But your info isn't entirely accurate and you're arguing also with opinion and that won't win too many points around here. I'm pretty opinionated and pissed off at the computer industry, and I don't get as geeky with technology as I used to because of being sick to death of it, so I speak from personal experience in making passionate rants that might lack modern facts

PS: You probably wouldn't even see the antialiasing of text on a retina MacBook Pro
That's why I'm interested in such displays (readability; I'm sick of seeing pixels) my own self (plus for photography).

"Years ago" is old data. Anyway, I've always had to set initial display settings when introducing a new display to a computer the first time. I don't like doing it but it's a one time event on my MacBooks. I've never had to install monitor drivers on a Mac.myrna wrote:sorry, but that is not true. I remember years ago, I had a little more than crappy 10' MSI windows xp netbook, and wherever you attached it, the screen was always clear and nitid. Only macs have this issue.Jace-BeOS wrote:PS: Mac graphics aren't a problem. If you attach an external LCD, ensure you run it at the LCD's NATIVE resolution. Any resolution other than native will look blurry on any OS and any computer. That's how LCDs are. CRT on the other hand looks blurry all the time unless it's a really fantastic CRT (though color and blacks are better on CRT).
However: every single time I attach a display to a Windows machine, it gives me 800x600 in 256 colors. Every time. I have to always download and install monitor drivers. Even if the monitor drivers were already present, it fails to detect the display and utilize them. This is especially annoying with CRTs because Windows defaults to 60Hz refresh rate, which kills my eyes. No monitor manufactured since 1998 has a maximum refresh rate that low, so why default to it? Windows constantly forgets my display settings. Display driver updates actively clear my settings. I often am forced to reorganize my desktop because Windows resets the display settings.
That has been my experience from Win 95 through Win Vista. I've not experienced anything but first time settings frustration on new displays with Macs. I accept your experiences may have been different. This thread is supposed to help someone choose a MacBook but your anti-Apple commentary derailed it to Mac vs PC. I've contributed to that by trying to balance out your claims.

even though its supposed to be its replacement most newer high end computers still have not added this. I know this because I just spent almost 2k on a new computer from ADK and thunderbolt was not even a option. plus they are pricy. also I have heard of lots of issues with the new tech. its like usb 3 is supposed to just mop the floor with usb 2 and firewire. I have yet to see a usb3 interface. even if its meant to replace firewire its going to take a lot of time. I would wait till they figure it all out.myrna wrote: wait, thunderbolt is a new technology, it should replace the failed "firewire" technology in the future. I don't mean that. I mean this:
I dont think its failed by the way. I mean if its so old and crappy why do we still see it. and why are firewire interfaces still more expensive than usb ones.

1) i don't care whose technology it is, i just realize on ecery crappy pc fonts are nitid and smooth, while on the mac they are blurred.Jace-BeOS wrote:1. Text antialiasing is a bit personal. 3) i'm not pissed off at computers, i am tired of this stupid apple policy and realizing apple computers are becoming toyish year after year, thanks to i-pods, i-pads, i-cheesy families, i-cool and such bullshit. But prices remain high (a stupid cable 39€... ridiculous)...

more nonsense.myrna wrote:2) the stupid one button mouse was an "original" (?) job's idea, because he claimed two buttins are not "natural" for humans roll:
The inventor of the mouse, Doug Engelbart, invented it with one button.
Before the Mac was released, Apple tested multiple mice with differing numbers of buttons, but came to the conclusion that beginners found it easiest with one. Even early versions of Windows only relied on one button.

Actually i have always used both mac and pc. I can say in 2000 mac was a must, you could not even try to play music on a pc. Not nowadays, really: i guess windows 8 will be more professional than mac. Just wonder what can musicians do with microsoft tablets, running windows 8 (not iphone os, like ipad)... This means playing real soft instruments, not ipad toys.Jace-BeOS wrote:"Years ago" is old data. its like I said its suposed to be better. actually I tested out a few usb2 stuff against my firewire stuff on the new comp to be honest they are both as good. the thing is firewire is touchy its to easy to have something that makes it not compatible or not sutible for recordings and stuffmyrna wrote:

but I have always notices my firewire stuff has always been stable no hums no issues. usb use to give me issues. but this new one has like 5 usb buses and a usb3 one so far I think they are both as good. I like firewire for my audio recording. but Usb is so much better for midi and stuff I notice. honestly I dont use midi much so maybe thats why I never really had much use for usb.
but in many cases people like usb and in many others like firewire. I love firewire. I spend extra to get the High quality firewire cards and stuff that are compatible and so I never have any problems. my last computer could not use usb very well and it has a usb3 and a usb2 bus on em. so its mixed.
in MY case I have Never had a problem with firewire. also remember I am using the expensive as hell built for only one reason firewire stuff maybe thats it? i dont know but I am liking the usb stuff like midi keyboard and stuff.
