Picking a dj name... how hard can it be??

By using two (or more) words you can get endless combinations:

DJ My Light
DJ Power Plain (or Power Plane)
DJ Sky Scan

Or mixing two words:

DJ Eturner
DJ Skysome

Or think a bit more out of the box:

DJ Walamagama
DJ 10tacle

None of these may sound cool to you and may not be great names but you get the idea. Yet none of these names exist either (as far as I checked). They are also quite easy to remember and mostly short. But again just as examples.

Don't give up. There are still plenty of untaken useful names. :)
The more I hang around at KVR the less music I make.

Thanks for your replies guys!

I will not use DJ in my name and I want something short thats easy to remember, like Avicii, Axwell or Tiesto.

I have one name now that I like which is not taken (searched discogs) but there is a European company with the same name, do I need to worry about that or can I go for the name?

Serious DJ name? Two mutually incompatible ideas. Just use your name and drop the DJ bit. Never did Armin van Buuren or Markus Schulz any harm.

There's nothing wrong with DJ but only if you're one of the best like DJ Pie Safety:

Like I said I don't want to use DJ in my name. But I can't use my own name because it doesn't sound good in english. It's fine if you already have a cool name like Armin van Buuren but I don't so I have to come up with something else.

DJ Ignatius Ramsbottom III

I'm getting really curious for what your real name might be. It may not sound cool to you but maybe it's interesting or exotic for people who are not so used to it. I mean, Ricardo Villalobos or Sven Väth could have thought the same thing.

One of my favorite producers at the moment works under the name Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. But his real name is Orlando Higginbottom. I think that's quite a cool name too; he could have just gone with that :-)

Do your friends or family have nicknames for you?
Sometimes the names others call us are more appropriate / fitting than the ones we come up with ourselves.

Use your real name! As long as you can mix the name means nothing.

Funny enough, indie bands seem to have this problem, too. Think way outside the box - find a low frequency word and put it into binary, or use a hex value.
