cannot upload wav to be downloadable for people??
cannot fine tune your compressors??
and still expect feedback from people??

hmmmm....I don't know what to think about it
at least for mine its impossible to help becouse I cannot listen your files properly without downloading... :(
The file is downloadable. You can play hi-fi and low-fi versions, as well as download the file. The site does not allow WAV files, but the mp3 is a 320 kbps mp3. You can definitely hear the different compressors being used. In a couple of cases I need to adjust the makeup gain and forgot to do so.

I can fine tune the compressors just fine, I simply did not have the time after taking the time to eliminate quite a few other compressors that had a very different character. In addition, a few of the plugins have 10 or more parameters and having bought them very recently I am still unfamiliar with them. I think there's only one I've used for over 10 years, so that one was easy to set up. Unfortunately I don't have my studio monitors with me, thus I asked for other people's feedback regarding this first (rough) file.

If you don't want to give your feedback that's fine. I don't need to do this and can spend my Sunday doing other stuff. :)

What you could do is ask if he needs help, and offer a solution, instead of getting all over his case.
When working with people remotely we used to use Rapidshare or Hotfile to upload large WAV files. I thought it was more user friendly to use SoundClick here since it has the options of playing the file as well as downloading them, plus I already had an account. :)

unfortunately the file is not downloadable from my side-when clicked on download it always need from me e-mail and password which I think I cannot know...?

Im sorry but I cannot judge your compression on my crappy internet laptop..and it doesnt matter if I play it lo-fi or hi-fi,the problem is in soundcard and speakers :(
So the question is not about that I dont want to give you a feedback - becouse actually I want...but I CANNOT and I'm sorry if it was not clear from my first response so I apologize for my poor english skills!

All I CAN say is that some demos souds good and some very bad...but NOT if they are some of them comparable with Splitcomp demo...which was the main purpose I think...

I decided to go for it with a tool I would never normally use in this particular application just to see how close I could get to the analog comp's sound with a very different kind of digital tool.

I enjoyed using a plugin that I wouldn't normally use like this in a new way. I might try again, with something aimed more specifically at doing that particular job, but this was fun nonetheless.

wow,I dont want to comment on compression immediately becouse I hope Shy is here again and should do it first....but-how did you managed to alter that stereo sound so dramatically? I have no clue at all how it can be done-what was that different kind of tool?

I got lost, really, I don't think I did the "challenge" at all, I was having too much fun with messing around with some mid/side separation processing and a clipper, which is so far off the path when it comes to compression tricks. I didn't use a "fast comp" at all. Oops...? Haha.

William Wittman, who's a producer in NYC (Cyndi Lauper, The Fixx, and, yea he did that one Outfield record from the '80's :hihi:) told me he thinks they've done a good job emulating hardware with EQ's, but not with compressors. He might change his opinion if he heard some of the better ones out there now, though (like Vertigo and possibly these new ones from DCAM, also maybe the reincarnated 1176 from UAD).

I know that Mixerman won't let a software compressor touch his stereo buss. He carries around a rack version of the SSL 4K buss comp that he always uses, even when everything else is in Logic.

That's a good way to get the maximum benefit of hardware with a minimum of hassle. I love the UAD 4K Buss Compressor but the real hardware can be hit A LOT harder before falling apart.

ttoz wrote:what are the software compressors you DO like Eric? I enjoy reading your opinions, having access to almost everything as an established retailer, so would be very interested to know what you think :)
My favorites are the new UAD 1176's, the UAD 33609, and the Sonnox Dynamics.
i take it by your comment, that one of my personal (and bmanic's too) favorites, the softube FET, is NOT one you like (i think that has THE most photo realistic gui?? )
hehehe...well, I love some plug-ins that have photo realistic GUI's and I love some plug-ins that don't have photo realistic GUI's. The point is that a photo realistic GUI has proven to have no impact on my preference of a plug-in, either positive or negative.

the question is if we really need to hit it harder, becouse majority of todays audio production suffers from that "loudness war" and to me is totally unacceptable to listen such records with DR 6 or 7... :(
