can't find anything on this.
what I want is.
Click on a track and it arms and selects monitor input. audio and or instrument.
while the track that you were just on. un arms and un monitors.
like in Reason. just click on a track and it arms the track and also turns the monitor in on. and of course... un arms the old track.
I could have said this with 64% less words.

I have a feeling this can be done with mouse modifiers, yet I'm not to a point where I can give you a step by step on how to do that.

I'll have to go through record config and see if I remember, but I'll tell you than it's a PITA. Once you select things differently, it screws the whole project up. So, it's only "semi" doable.

So now now we're down to weird semantics about the word truth? The old concepts of facts and reality obviously has no place in this discussion. Oh well..LawrenceF wrote:Some people's truth is that iPads are great, other's truth is that they suck. Some people's truth is that an invisible person is watching us all, others truth is that those people are delusional.
Unless you live in a robot city where everyone thinks the same way about everything and everyone's brain works the same way and everyone makes music exactly the same way, I'm not sure how you don't see multiple examples of subjective truth - based on personal need, experience, expectation, taste, environment, whatever - all over the place... every day.
What's with the rude tone? Questioning whether I understand there are other sides to MIDI writing is beyond reasonable; it is just meant to be insulting. How pathetic..LawrenceF wrote:Unless you're suggesting that everyone who records midi clicks in lots of notes like you do? You actually can't be suggesting that.
Some people just play their midi instrument and then modify, edit, what they played, without ever clicking in a note that they actually didn't play. You do realize that right?
The reality here is that it was you who came out (again) hammering a single side of MIDI in Reaper as if editing multiple items simultaneously when doing other people's projects was all everyone was using Reaper's MIDI for and all there was to judge Reaper's MIDI by.
After I show another side with a concrete example instead of spelling out there are other sides to it, your comeback is to slam my single sided view? That's not only bizarre, it's the type of simple reverse argumentation I last heard in a high school courtyard verbal fight. You then add insult for good measure. It's sad that a possible fruitful discussion has to reach this kind of level, but I will certainly not be part of it.

From memory I think you have to create a custom action, and that would be
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Tracks: Set/clear all tracks record automatic record arm ..plus
Tracks: Set track record monitor to on
you can assign this to an icon, so you dont always have this feature.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Also another good idea is to have this feature with another Custom action
as well...and thats..
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Go to start of time selection
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Mine is totally reliable...works properly all the time.
What this means is you can do overdubs/midi recording etc... very quickly
by dragging the time selection where you want to record and simply hit an icon or key that has 3 custom actions (as above) and you are away.
Mines also assigned to the key (L) and custom action action
Play/arm/record from left locater
Also you can set another that does not actually set the rec monitor to on...
so if you are recording a vocalist you dont need to monitor them in Reaper
...you may wish to monitor them directly.
You can set up a record panel icon with several styles on it (makes life with Reaper easy)
Set a text icon at the beginning ...maybe call it (Rec)
and have a few record settings (custom actions) assigned to icons in it.
Cheers

It's something that has been complained about on my end. One thing is for certain, they are as interested in my opinion as some of the people here on kvr
I'd take it personally, but since Lawrence and ED seem to feel very similar on many subjects, maybe it's not

How does Reaper handle crashed projects? Ableton live has some sort of save feature.. where if you crash. it will recover the project you were working on.
Does Reaper have anything like this? I was messing with reaper earlier and had a crash and couldn't find any way to recover it. I had not saved it even once. but.
