Was wondering if you guys are using any guitar apps,to make actual recordings...if so, share them here so we can hear...here's my latest with metal shred monster, Xander Demos. I used the Laney model for rhythm, and the AD30 and 900 for leads. Ampeg model for bass...using JamUp of course...I don't know what Xander used, but who cares....he sounds awesome.

I'm guessing you played the guitar parts live (because they sound really, really good). So I am guessing that you are referring to guitar apps such as Ampkit+, JamUp, etc. rather than guitar apps like Garageband's smart-instruments or WI Guitar.
Personally, I don't have anything I'm proud enough of to show and tell, but I'm interested in this topic as well. I haven't played regularly on the guitar for about 10 years, and my wrist goes numb or aches when I try to play now, so I'm thinking I may have carpel tunnel syndrome. At any rate, I've been playing around with the smart instruments in garageband and WI guitar (as I mentioned above).
I use either the acoustic guitar or the clean guitar in Garageband, and use no effects. I create an audio phrase of a guitar part, and export it from Garageband to Ampkit. I then take the backing part of the song and load it in so that I can hear the entire track along with the guitar part. I then adjust the amps, cabs, effects, etc until I like how the mix sounds. I then render that guitar part with the effects and export it to Auria or Multitrack DAW (where I put all of the audio phrases together.
I really like WI Guitar for drafting of songs. It is probably the best of the best when it comes to simulating a guitar on the iPad. I wish it had the ability to record audio and to audio copy / paste recorded audio.
So yeah, I mainly use those three apps: Garageband, AmpKit, & WI Guitar. I don't get the fantastic professional sound that your recordings have, but for someone who can't play guitar (anymore), it is about the best that is available on the ipad.

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Added note: I don't do a lot of heavy distortion on my stuff. The style of music I try to do uses guitars that are just barely overdriven, and use lots of effects such as delay, flange, phaser, and reverb. I use a lot of the clean and classic amps & effects that come from Ampkit.

Cool ideas, Sean. I like all styles of music...and play all styles as well. But I'm hard rock at heart! However, one of my favorite bands is Angels & Airwaves...( first two albums). Just genius! I don't mess with ampkit too much, although the revamp thing is kind of cool. I'm a JamUp guy...settle down everybody lol...not trying to stir up any mayhem! I think that's a cool idea though with GarageBand...I use it a lot to sketch out ideas.....now if someone will just create an app that will "tab" what I play!

I'm interested in JamUp too. As of right now, I don't believe JamUp has the ability to play a backing track, play audio to be effected, and render audio for export that can then be transferred to other apps using audiocopy/audiopaste. I seem to remember the developer saying that he was looking into the possibility of doing something like that. When that happens (or when audiobus becomes a usable reality), I'll reassess things again and see who is better for my workflow and for sound quality.Derek Buddemeyer wrote:Cool ideas, Sean.
