That's true, the beat for virtually all dance and rock music comes originally from those traditions, but the rock/synth pop/dance scene was primarily invented by US/UK musicians.Numanoid wrote:I think they got a bit of tribal influences that can be traced to music of African origin...munchkin wrote:The combined influence of US/UK musicians and DJ's (with help from the Germans/Italians) have fundamentally shaped modern dance music.

Agreed. I recently bought Massive on sale and was definitely seduced by the workflow, which TBH, is some of the best GUI workflow for programming sounds no question about that. However, the raw sound of any u-he synths trump any synth I've ever heard. It's frightening how great just the raw oscillators sound on zebra/diva. It's remarkable the kind of achievements u-he has made.digitalboytn wrote:Take the FX off Massive and she doesn't sound so massive at all...
Then you can hear what's REALLY going on inside that sound engine...
But the GUI looks very sexy - in true NI style....
I prefer woman who look great with no makeup at all ...
The FX in Massive are just a mask to hide the imperfections
I just need a faster computer for Diva. She's a demanding lady

Could they have made that kind of music without affordable equipment that originated in Asia/Japan?munchkin wrote:but the rock/synth pop/dance scene was primarily invented by US/UK musicians.
Some of the classic basslines in early house, are basically straight presets from synths programmed by Japanese engineers.

which is why pop music really is an evolution of MANY things; synths from japan, kids in basements in chicago, musicians everywhere. where would we be without kraftwerk, yellow magic orchestra (i just got turned on to them recently; amazing stuff).
i don't care WHERE it comes from, i only care if music moves me...or not.
ALL these plugins depend on the enduser, so bad music on a "good" plugin has less value than good music from a 'lesser' plugin...

They may be japanese companies, but the classic sounds were not programmed by themNumanoid wrote:Could they have made that kind of music without affordable equipment that originated in Asia/Japan?munchkin wrote:but the rock/synth pop/dance scene was primarily invented by US/UK musicians.
