First impression is quite good actually. It just has that pleasant plain but slightly organic sound and the filter's oscillation is very pleasant and not horribly peircing. I was hoping for a bit more magic, maybe some sync or ringmod action or whatever, but I may get this while it's cheap.
Not sure I'd pay the full asking for it, though. Reason being, Charlatan has a similar analogicality (yeah) and is more flexible, and it's free.
One of the main reasons for buying this will be to support the TAL cause. Noisemaker is just so FAT and useful. I'd pay for a version of it with more performance controls.

On a first quick demo I found the same, it does sound nice and if a recall correctly, accurate to the real thing. But it does lack some mojo the competitors have. On the other hand, it doesn't drain the CPU.Ingonator wrote:My first overall impression of the synth is really good and for that price it's a no-brainer IMO.
Anyway in terms of "analog sounds" it does not seem to be a "revolution" in comparison to e.g. Diva, Oxium, Saurus etc. as there seems to be a bit of lack in the "low end" but i could be wrong (this could be tested with Synth Brass presets nicely).
Will give it some more time and do some comparisons.
Still some bugs though, I for instance broke the fader cap of the PWM
Oh and I would like a "new sound" button, where are the controls are initialized.

I like it
I tried a/b'ing it against Diva, trying to make the same settings I got dramatically different sounds out of the two. I don't know if that just means my settings weren't accurate, Diva has a separate ENV for the filter where U-NO-LX like a real Juno shares the same settings, so maybe just out of the box it will be closer since it is a specifically direct Juno emulation. The CPU seems reasonable, as much as I can tell. I think the presets are fine, good starting points. The chorus is really nice, and I appreciate the arp too. I can live with the Gumby buttons too
Anyhow its welcome in my plugin folder, I like its simplicity.

I just did a few tests and the Juno presets in Diva (Fernandos bank) sound less authentic than the ones in U-No-LX and in some cases the Diva presets sound quite different also when compared to the audio demos of the real thing (see my last post). Also the Chorus in U-NO-LX sound better or just more authentic IMO.braj wrote:I like itI tried a/b'ing it against Diva, trying to make the same settings I got dramatically different sounds out of the two. The overall sound of Diva is great but as a pure emulation of the Juno-60 U-NO-LX seems to be far ahead.
As i already mentioned U-NO-LX seems to lack a bit in the "low end" of the sound but as i already found for Saurus and also Arturia Jupiter 8V recently this could be corrected with using an EQ (the internal one with Jupiter 8V) at around 100-180 Hz.

There's no readout of the actual slider values, and if you right-click the Tune fader it goes all the was down to 'zero' instead of centering where it belongs. Also there is no triplet or dot settings in the arp and the slowest it goes is 1/8 note
Maybe this is to keep it 'vintage' I don't know.

Ouch! Bad... At least the slider value readout should be there, not to mention correct default values for bipolar parameters...braj wrote:There's no readout of the actual slider values, and if you right-click the Tune fader it goes all the was down to 'zero' instead of centering where it belongs. Those buttons really need to be changed. Visually definitely not nice...
It does sound quite good, though.

Well I was actually able to get them nearly the same, i have no real Juno here so trying to get them to sing the same tune shows they can both sound very similar, so i trust Diva's Juno interpretation, surely both fall within the variance of real hardware. I do like the TAL chorus, more straight authentic but the Diva chorus is more flexible overall. Anyhow, I'd say good job on TAL. I think when I just want a very straight Juno sound I'll likely turn to it.Ingonator wrote:I just did a few tests and the Juno presets in Diva (Fernandos bank) sound less authentic than the ones in U-No-LX and in some cases the Diva presets sound quite different also when compared to the audio demos of the real thing (see my last post). I could confirm this. I agree that this should be corrected.braj wrote: and if you right-click the Tune fader it goes all the was down to 'zero' instead of centering where it belongs.

I do think a big part of the TAL sound is that chorus, raw it sounds much less impressive actually than Diva, which I guess is to be expected considering the more complex architecture and big price difference.

The filter sounds choppy at high resonance. Actually I don't know how the real thing should sound though.
Edit, maybe it is because of my system, per TAL: Filter range up to ~40kHz (depends on the sample rate). Because of my old soundcard, I'm only @ 24 bit 44.1.

Of course. Diva's parameters are not calibrated to any hardware device because that wouldn't have worked with the mix & match approach - A Minimoog Cutoff setting and range is different from a Juno one. A good "pure" emulation will therefore always sound closer to the hardware its modeled after and calibrated for.Ingonator wrote:I just did a few tests and the Juno presets in Diva (Fernandos bank) sound less authentic than the ones in U-No-LX and in some cases the Diva presets sound quite different also when compared to the audio demos of the real thing (see my last post). Looking forward to trying this beast! Maybe we can sell our Junos 60s then
