Are we listening to the same app? :)

Patch volumes are my only real criticism of this synth, as I found them to vary wildly (using headphones). Other than that I'm enjoying it so far.
Hmmm. I was monitoring through headphones as well, but was using the provided keyboard, not triggering through midi.
I auditioned sounds mostly from the "Lead" & "Pad" categories, so maybe within each category the volumes seemed balanced with each other.
I only tried a few from the percussion group after realizing that I wouldn't use this app for drum parts anyway.

Still more to explore.

This is the best synth i've tried so far for playing with my guitar- some pretty fat bass sounds, especially enabling the 2 synths to trigger on midi channel 1 (that the midi guitar app is coming in on..)
Synth 2 just seems to be a stringy synth sort of sound in just about all the presets tho, is it limited to that sort of sound?
It is good for putting a bit of atmosphere behind the bass/lead sounds when triggering it with my guitar tho, so no complaints there..
Synth 2 is exactly like synth 1- either can load any patch. When you select a patch from the browser, it is only loading into whichever synth is selected- the patches don't load into both at the same time.
Oh great thanks.. Probably would have worked that out down the track.. Good to know now tho ;)

I agree ... Magellan is pretty damn cool!

one thing I'm having problems with though is fx assignment. It seems that whatever fx I assign are effecting both synth engines. And if I change the fx assignment from s1 to s2 I get a different chain of fx but still effecting both synths. how do I get a separate fx chain on each of the two synth engines?

I'm having issues with patch volumes being drastically different and it seems the app assigns patches to both keyboards sometimes (unless it's just me doing something wrong). I haven't tried effects yet, but it seems there isn't enough control over the two synths independantly. A dedicated volume knob for each keyboard would be nice. Either that or a seperately dropdown button for a mixer section so levels and panning for each synth engine and the sequencer can be set.

Otherwise, kickass app. Worth the money for sure.

Have a look under preferences- you'll find vol/pan/tuning and more, for each synth!

This is a great synth. Does anyone know how to init the patch so I can create a new sound from scratch? I can't find it anywhere in the documentation.

Apparently this will be included in the first update which should be on the app store later today.

Hehe. I could've sworn I already looked there  I completely missed it. My bad. :) Thanks for pointing that out.

After playing around a little with this synth(s) and reading the manual, I have to concur with the OP - WOW!

The developer really thought things out and added a whole slew of options. I'm not usually a deep editing type person but this may be the one that changes that. This is one monster app.

Including some nice Sunsine presets is icing on the cake.

I have a feeling iOS apps are starting to mature at a quick pace and I'm looking forward to see what is on the horizon.

Be great to save the global sound (both 2 synth presets together) cant see a way to do it tho

Yeah, I totally agree with your comment.
I do own (deep breath): Additive synth, Alchemy, Arctic keys, Cassini iPad, Crystal synth, Grain science, Sunrizer, AniMoog, iMS20, NLog and other "little ones", as well as the "build in" synths in NanoStudio, iSequence, iSynPoly, Meteor, Garage Band, BeatMaker, TableTop, etc; etc; but Magelian truly takes the cake...
What a wonderful and powerful synth it is,
Simply brilliant :) 10 out of ten...

Boy, I fell for all the praise, but was not overwhelmed. Is it me or does midi sustain not work. I plugged into my keyboard to try layering stuff and sustain didn't work - yet works fine in other apps. maybe a bug?

Beyond that, just felt the sound was flat, so I will need to spend more time with it. Maybe I am getting jaded with all the synth apps.

Can we hope for an iPhone version???

Post

For a 1.0 version, I think this is great. Could it grow some more? Of course, but the sounds are creative and full, very modulate-able, and not a clone of anything else on iOS. For me, it's up top with Animoog, sunrizer, and alchemy.
