Luxonix Purity is one of the most efficient plugins that I own.

Oh I see the spam bots from the companies chimed in to praise their crap :D

Very low on CPU and very versatile is the Rob Papen stuff. I would not recommend all from Papen but Predator is very nice.
Tone2 Saurus, not a CPU hog also when used with Unison. It seems this stuff is very optimized.
Fabfilter Twin2 yes, very light on CPU and very versatile. I personally don't like this a bit cheesy sound, but I would give it a try.
Arturia, some like it some not... But the CPU consumption is not very big. I would give it try too. Eventually start with the Oberheim SEM.
NI Absynth very light on CPU and _very_ versatile - but also a bit "special" ;)
Imageline Harmor, some very interesting ideas, very good sound. Seems it's a bit under the radar. There is not much marketing by Imageline.

ZenPunkHippy wrote:I just ran a quick test of Alchemy with 24 oscillators - similar to the patch themachinelt is using - in Reaper 4.25 and FL Studio 10.0.9.

Reaper: 2.5% CPU

FL Studio: 8% CPU

Note it was a very quick / rough test. Also the CPU meter in any host is not a very reliable way of measuring overall performance, it's just a rough guide. Better is to compare the number of instances that will run simultaneously but then it's not a real world test. None of this really matters, unless you are hearing pops n clicks due to CPU overload while working on a typical composition.

Peace,
Andy.
I use Ableton Live on mac. Like I said, using the VA capabilities is indeed pretty efficient. However try the Alchemistry bank by Simon S. Individual patches can cause clicks and pops on my i7 macbook pro with one instance! I really can't tell why.

Check out Sonic Charges Stuff too, especially synplant!
