Hi Folks,

Does anyone know what particular synths Maurice Jarre and Vangelis used/favored?

I am really enjoying listening to their work, and would be grateful if you could share specific synth models they used (ie mini moog, ARP 2600,Roland Juno, etc)

Vangelis was a big user of the Yamaha CS-80 - used extensively on the sound track of Blade Runner and is particularly prominent in the opening titles where the note at the end drops by an almost impossibe number of octaves - he used the CS-80's ribbon controller to do that. There are a number of emulations but the best (IMO only) has to be Gunnar's ME80 : http://www.memorymoon.com/me80.htm

Side note: There is a preset in Z3ta+ called "Spiral" which sounds like the arpeggiated sequence at the beginning of Spiral (the song).

I will assume that you are talking about Jean-Michel Jarre.

Jarre was always pretty good at detailing his tech - at least on his early albums, so you can check the liner notes.

For example, on Rendez-Vous (1986) Jarre used a Seiko DS 250 & 320, Moog (only Moog listed, so I think I'm safe in saying it was a Moog modular), Roland JX-P, Fairlight, Synthex, Emulator II, Eminent String synth, AKS (EMS Synthi), "Lynn" 9000 (I'm betting that's actually a LINN), Laser Harp (as a controller), OBX, DX 100, Matrisequencer, TR 808, Prophet (dunno) and a Casio CZ 5000. His synth collaborator Michael Geiss played ARP 2600 and programmed the Matrisequencer and TR 808. Other collaborators played MemoryMoog, Drumulator and baby Korg.

Yes, Soddi, Budweiser is correct; Maurice was his father. The Harrison Ford movie 'Witness' has some great synth pads that I was interested in finding out what synth Maurice used.

Maurice has written 167 scores, most inpressive! 3 Oscars and 8 Academy awards; Check him out:

Yeah, I was aware of that - I assumed he was talking about Jean-Michel for the electronic suff, as Maurice Jarre is best known for his full orchestral scores.

One of the comments says it's an Emulator II. I would have guessed that or a Fairlight or Synclavier.

Can't link to any of the GOOD pictures of her in "The Night Porter" or "Zardoz" as this is a family board!!

Throughout this piece you hear this 'droning' pad....
(listen to the beginning, 2:22, 3:20 and 5:00)

Sorry to be a pest, but that drone 'sound' is so compelling to me.
