I think that's true about the DAW's. I have 8 Gb of RAM, but even using FL Extended Memory I only get @ 4....

FL has x64 bridging though so if you run x64 bridged plugs, you'll get to use more ram.

I STILL don't get this with FLS. They are FORWARD bridging (i.e. their x32 DAW runs x64 plugs). What's the point there, exactly? Run your next gen plugs in last gen technology?

Delphi reportedly solved the x64 issue a while ago. Can't IL get their act together and bring their catalog up to speed in x64? Then they can worry about BACKWARDS compatibility like everyone else.

So many plugins, so little time...

I dunno, I didn't want to cause FL angst :hihi: I was just saying that they have a bridge where at least they claim you can use ram hogs that way.

I tried it but I was 100 x64 so those plugs in that wrapper were MIGHTY taxing on the cpu. I just uninstalled it :D

I have a 64-bit OS and 64-bit DAWs,

... yet I'm still running 32-bit.

I keep trying to convince myself that I *need* 64-bit,

... and failing.

No crashes that I can blame on 32-bit (and I've tried).

Oh, well. Someday.

There isn't anything wrong with that. For me, it was about the ram. I was running out of ram frequently. If this isn't an issue, then it's well.........not an issue :hihi:

I've asked before, I don't remember the answer, but if you run x86 inside of x64, do you get access to all the ram (4GB) ? If so, that would at least help.

You dont which is why FL has a bridge to allow you to run 64 bit plugins as external processes. Which isn't a terrible solution really, though I dont know how stable their bridge is.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

Oh, well then poo. Reaper can run plugs as a dedicated process. I've not tried it because I just went x64 instead, but I hear it works groovy for get extra ram access if you don't want to go x64.

This reminds me, I'm getting excited to get the clean install going :hyper:

The bridge is okay. I think it's a JBridge. I've had a few 64 bit plugins close unexpectedly and their seems to be GUI issues with a few plugins but I believe it's the wrapper. I've yet to have a crash caused by 32 bit. Even SE/SM ones, except /I installed one where the .sem files were already extracted and Win7 didn't seem to like/got confused by this.
But a big PS: I'm sure it;s all in software coding. I've never even had Omnisphere 64 bit crash and I've tried.

wasi wrote:If the same exact effects chain runs with 30% less CPU as 64bit in a 64bit DAW than it does in 32bit, that really ends any argument right there for me.

Maybe some people's setups don't rely as heavily on whatever it is that makes mine so much smoother in 64bit, but mine does. I don't know what it is or why, but I don't need to argue in favor of what is glaringly obvious.
I think these are good arguments; if 32bit works for you, stick with it. If you need 64bit to go faster &/or have more stability, then go for it.

Being back on the 32 bit system temporarily is a bit of a drag. Maybe today I'll stop being lazy about the clean install :hihi:

I don't play 32 bit on the radio now. I only ever buy 32 bit in vinyl now and play it on my gramophone.
