I was wondering if there was any way to "tap" in a sequence of notes, and then have it be triggered by a step sequence, like you would with a roland drum machine with trigger out and an sh-101 or jx3p, but on using software.
Any help is much appreciated.

Can't say I've used it in maybe decades, but Cubase used to have a "step input mode". Possibly it still does? I think it does. Last time I used it, it was back in old Cubase v1 I think - I'm fairly sure I used it in v3 too (when it was still all midi). I'd be surprised if they got rid of it completely even in the latest versions, but TBH I haven't looked. It seems like midi features have become more and more constrained over recent years...
