...But mono routing can be way more handy than side-chaining.
I think you will have to use AU version in Live,
I'm on Windows, so if i understand correctly, i can't use your vocoder in Live, that's it ? Too bad :(
Stereo processing is indeed great and i enjoyed it in Reaper, but as i use Live for live and real-time music, not being able to use it is a showstopper.
seems too limited.
"limited", maybe, but at least it should work in every host (and for basic vocoding, i mean voice vocoding, being mono is quite a standard, as long as humans still don't have two mouths ;)

I'm not sure if you can use it in Live. Most hosts found a way to use side-chain with VST, I just don't know about Live as I have no idea how to make side-chaining work in Live.

But couldn't we have an optionnal L/R mode ?
It would allow your vocoder to work in every host, and behave just like any other vocoder...

I'll add it to to-do list.

Thank you.
Any chances that a couple of features get implemented before the end of the intro price ? And will you let us know here when the intro price will be over ?

Post

I have no idea. The intro price will end at the end of the month. If it will be implemented, that's a question I cannot answer now.

I'm having lots of fun with this vocoder, and i'm just using it with no modulator signal...

Suggestion :

- It would be very interesting to have a sequencer to trigger the volume enveloppes of each filter band ! (See MOOGERFOOGER MURF for a similar effect)

Sequencer Vertical axis : bands to activate (from 0 to 100)
Sequencer Horizontal Axis : time

This would be similar to the sounds one can get by moving the mouse cursor on the bands graph : really nice cool sounds when bands are turned on and off randomly.

In this case you would have to add an enveloppe parameter to control at what speed each band reaches it's max volume, the max volume of each band would still be defined by the graph.

Maybe roll this in a seperate effect with less bands but more control on each band (pan, freq). It's worth it, the filters sound nice imo.

Anyways, Thanks for this nice and surprising effect !

EDIT after i understood a few things.

now, I know why I never could get it to act like a typical vocoder! The VST doesn't work correctly in live.

tried the AU. sounds good, bought :)

Hehe, well, this looks more like a filter ;). Anyway can you elaborate a little more in some special topic? I'm a little lost here :).

Just tried out the demo. And it's great / works just as a good vocoder should work. Going to buy this one. ( gotta do a bit more "punishing" tests first)
What I REALLY liked and have sought in vocoders is a vocoder that works in stereo from the beginning. Instead of having to load up two instances of a plugin.
- and this for a very cheap price.

To get robotic sounds or make it sound like Daft Punk is the easiest part but to get that crystal clear smooth vocoding often requires a lot more (money). It's pretty easy on the CPU when using fewer bands like a standard 32 bands wich is often sufficient. The really cool thing happens when you go above 40 bands, it gets CPU heavier but boy does it sound good !

If it's of any interest for anyone, here's what I did in Cubase:
Added a group track.
Inserted Mvocoder on the group track.( this way the vocoder can be used for any track or synth in the project)
Acitvated the "Sidechain" button in the group track.
Now the group track has 3 inputs. One mono for modulating signal and a stereo input for the carrier.
Take an audiotrack, vocals drums or whatever you wish to use for a modulator signal.
On this audiotrack - activate a send to the sidechain input of the group track. Click the "prefader" button and turn the volume fader of the track all the way down.
For carrier sound - choose whatever vst synth you want and route it completely to the group input.
Start playback of the audiotrack and play your vst synth.Preferably a sustaining sound of course.
A bit of compressor after the vocoder and voila'

Found that I hardly used anything but the first Basic preset on Mvocoder since most of the audio changes depends on what the carrier sounds like. Juts playing around with sending different carrier sounds into it (ie different vst synths).

A small tip regarding using vocoders when using voice: try singing/speaking out loud and pronunciate the words clearly.Use compression to further enhance the clearness. Reduce a lot of low frequencies on the vocaltrack. This helps the vocoders filter to better follow your vocals. Low end is better added afterwards.

Thank you! And thanks for the explanations!

Thanks Biomekk, that walkthru got me up and running! I have been having great fun with this vocoder. I have discovered using a transient effect on the vocal also helps the vocoder follow the words

Hi
I played abit more with the vocoder last night, and just noticed that it eats a huge lot of CPU.
So i'm still hesitating wether to buy it or not...

Do you have any plan to make an optional mono mode, so it would have 2 avantages :
1- we could use it like any other vocoder in any other daw, with Left channel vocoding right channel ;
2- it would save CPU.

Thank you in advance for taking this FR into consideration ;)

Post

CPU usage highly depends on the settings - number of bands and band order mainly. With 100 bands and band order 10 it takes a lot indeed. There's not much to do about it without sacrificing audio quality, so answer to your 2nd question is probably "no". As for L/R encoding - it is already there in the latest version ;).
