Why can't Alchemy be the new Omnisphere?

I can't speak for Alchemy because I only have the Player. Love it and use it all the time. As for Omni, I was able to use it out of the box, no manual. It sounds incredible. I have tried and tried to crash it, and it's one of the most stable 64 bit plugins I've ever played with.
I have all 3 actually, Alchemy P/Omni/Kontakt and they all take around the same amount of time to load samples. Pretty fast actually. The only thing missing is sample import from Omni. That will be a happy day.

I see this as being a very legitimate assessment. Alchemy's soundpacks (in it's defense) do provide a really decent amount of interest and stylistic variety. And there are some pretty phenomenal 3rd party banks available as well that are really surprising IMO. I use Alchemy quite a bit it and it is really good but I think overall I just haven't gotten the kind of "wow" results as I have with say Surge, which I think was the best purchase ever (for me at least).ben_horwood wrote:Alchemy is a great for it's diversity. You can do soooo much with it and not have the same "Alchemy sound" in a way that can't you do with Omnisphere. Because everything in Omnisphere sounds like Omnisphere, if that makes sense.

I am guessing this is a feature that a keyboardist would want, but why? Can you just load another instance of the plugin?juffi wrote:Alchemy2 should have at least 2000 factory patches and multitimbrality (16-times would be great).
Someone please elucidate, I can never understand why a plugin would bother to be multi-timbral...

Because it's easier to do key and velocity splits, layers or crossfades within a single instance. See Omnisphere Play mode.

Even though you can save a preset in an instrument, with Kontakt I can save a group preset comprised of single instruments. Then I just load that one group preset and all the single instruments load in a singled instance of Kontakt.sqigls wrote:Someone please elucidate, I can never understand why a plugin would bother to be multi-timbral...
Another reason is the same when you load your Word Documents, did you want 16 copies of Word running and using system resources to load your 16 documents or one copy of Word to load 16 documents.

This is why I'm a fan of Alchemy and am completely bored by the concept of Omnisphere.ariston wrote:Alchemy is a synthesist's synth, not a preset heaven...

For me presets are mostly either fodder for a chain of FX, or examples of what the synth can do.

I own both but almost never use Alchemy. I should really sell it. For some reason I always turn to Omnisphere.

Probably been said but.....Omnisphere is for players and Alchemy for programers. Not really true but you get the idea? i host a multi in omnisphere when i do my job in commercials and such and i am done. Choose one rhythmic, pad, granular etc and you got a track. Of course it is possible to use the sound sources and the traditional waveforms to make your own sounds but that is more when i make EDM for hobby. However, if i would only be interested in EDM i would go for Komplete alone and maybe Omni as an extra instead of buying a virus or whatever.
So my two cents of it all is that i make instant music with Omni, trilian and stylus (what a trinity!) while i look for other plugs that is a bit more complex when i wanna go deep and make my own sound. I believe that there will be some new update and a couple of thousands more patches being released and maybe making it possible to import own samples, making omni last for some years to come before a the upgrade will be done.

I agree. I'd love to be able to make my sounds in Omnisphere/Alchemy P/Nexus, but it seems the best software is also 'hobbled' as it were (see the movie Misery) As it is, you can just combine/morph what's there. I know Alchemy proper can do this, but at this point buying it is like having 3000 ballgowns and no date.....

I think (good) presets will do also two important things :foosnark wrote:This is why I'm a fan of Alchemy and am completely bored by the concept of Omnisphere.ariston wrote:Alchemy is a synthesist's synth, not a preset heaven...

----that's the most circular logic I've heard recently. What exactly do you think presets are? They are sounds. If you make your own sound- guess what? It's a preset.

alchemy can never be the new omnisphere ...
this was decided at the treaty of tordesillas , on 06/07/1494 ...
alchemy lies east of the meridian running 370 leagues west of the cape verde islands ,
and omnisphere is distinctly to the west of said meridian ...

Doesn't Omnisphere have to become the new Kontakt before Alchemy can take its place? But, what does Kontakt become, then, and what becomes the new Alchemy? I'm so confused. Why can't these synths just be themselves instead of always trying to be something they're not. Bunch of spoiled little bastards...I hate them all.
