My otherhalf got iphone and her old HTC is just sitting around.
I dont have a sim with internet so was wondering if i can download apps to my mac and bluetooth them to phone?
if this is possible I am interested in midi control for live, audio fx and step sequencers.

You should be able to just put the phone into flight mode, and use wifi to access the internet.
If it keeps giving an error about not having a SIM you should be able to put in any SIM (even an old prepaid with no credit left on it) and then put it into flight mode.

I thought FlightMode disables WiFi as well... On my BB PlayBook at least it does. Even in standby it keeps a connection alive periodically. I know since it interferes with a wireless video unit I have for the bedroom TV.
But since you have the phone right there, why don't you try what can be done with it without a SIM card?
I have this BlackBerry phone laying around and thought without a SIM card nothing could be done with it, based on my experience with old Nokia models. Turns out I can use it to surf the web etc with WiFi only

On my Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Note, I can set it to flight mode and wifi turns on and off fine.BertKoor wrote:I thought FlightMode disables WiFi as well... On my BB PlayBook at least it does.
I used to work in a place with no mobile network reception, so the battery would drain really quickly as it was constantly trying to connect.
So I used to put my phone into flight mode whilst at work and connect to the work wifi without any problems.
I'm not sure about HTC though...

Set HTC to flight mode and was able to turn on wifi. The phone did an OS update and since then have not been able to get on net. Not really had time to deal with it yet though. I am sure its not too much of a problem.
