We've had payware synths before so nothing against that per se, but opening for payware effects on a general basis is maybe too much of a departure?SuperNoise wrote:I have just checked DVD downloading with Computer Music.
It works. If you buy Apple or Zinio electronic edition, all VSTs from CM studio are fully accesable by downloading.
So, what do you think to allow CM studio stuff in OSC? (according to all OSC, not all vst effects are allowed but anyway everybody will find something interesting in CM studio).
Any opinion?

It seems the demo saves project as well as native presets in Reaper so it would be perfect, but won't do either in FL Studio so that's a bit of the same as with Oxium.. Technically one could say don't use that DAW if it's always so particular, but maybe too tough for a friendly competition and when there are other synth alternatives.

I am only new to OSC etc, but was thinking that maybe either retrologue or padshop could be candidate for the OSC, they are already in Cubase, available as separate purchase @ a very good price and they just came out as a trial / demo which is fully functional for 30 days, no limitations or dropouts etc, which makes it easy to work on a project etc.

Ah really? That's very interesting indeed. Only trouble is people might have spent their 30 days already so can't join the competition, but if Steinberg answers emails (doubt it) I could ask for a solution to that. Thanks for the tip

no, they would not spent it already as it was only announced yesterday or the day before
so everybody has almost 30 days left... but maybe you mean in the future

On another topic, how about One-Synth-Challenge joining the movement against the Loudness War by (voluntarily) labeling entries with a dynamic range (DR) number?
See also Pleasurize Music Foundation.
The idea is to keep some dynamics in tracks as measured by (the free) TT Dynamic Range Meter

well, few threads down on this page there's a thread about retrologue that the sales or was it marketing manager of stainberg made the announcement... you can ask him or suggest there, i am sure he'll reply, after all what we would do with OSC is further promote his products...V'ger wrote:Ah really? It is indeed! Wow, Steinberg has really changed. Good, low price synths for all systems with nice demo and support people on the case.. Nice.
Well there's no doubt then, we must really put one or both on. Question is which one first..

Padshop is for samples and granular synthesis.
Time to go bed.
Have a good day, mate.

But does it play full samples, or does it just use grains from the samples only?
Remember Zebralette also supported sample import, but as it was just for extracting waveforms it was not a problem, maybe the same here.

PadShop Pro
There are some differences between them.
PadShop normal can't import samples, the Pro version does. But in both cases, the samples aren't not single cycle waves, are full samples and loops, as i can read and see in the images.
What do you think?
Have a good day

This from the Padshop thread:
Neon Breath wrote:Padshop is granular synthesis all the way, it's not a sampler so there's no 'sample' player mode, samples are always granulated.
From the manual:
Duration
Increases the grain period by a factor ranging from 1 to 1000.
For very short grains, the sound gets the pitch of the frequency at which the grains repeat. For example, the grain duration at the center key C3 is 3.82 ms. If you set the grain duration to 2, the grain period is 7.64 ms, and the pitch of the sound is one octave lower.
When grains with a Duration setting above 10 are used, the sound gets the pitch of the sample.

Any views on this? No one using this meter?V'ger wrote:On another topic, how about One-Synth-Challenge joining the movement against the Loudness War by (voluntarily) labeling entries with a dynamic range (DR) number?

I'm curious to test my tracks against this meter, and I think it's a good idea to recover the lost dynamics. Good point, V'ger!V'ger wrote:Any views on this?
