soundcreations wrote::!: Just thought I would let you know I have upladed the 256mb version of Splendid Grand to our website.

It is compressed using SFARK available for both Mac (OSX) and PC users. You can download the latest version here: http://www.melodymachine.com/

The archive is a single 75 or so mb download. Use SFark to unpack it.

Due to some bandwidth restrictions I will only be able to keep this on the server for a limited amount of time.
 Enjoy,
Thanks

Thanks a lot. The 136mb version is already in my opinion the best free piano available. Surely, I'll use the 256mb version a lot!

Many thanks to everyone for the replies to my original post - it seems that Splendid 72/128/256 really is the best one out there - I have tried all the others and they all are no match for Splendid IMHO. Even with the distortion in the upper octaves, it's sonically superior to even very expensive commercial grands.

Thanks Simon so much for uploading the 256MB version - with the rgc:audio sfz VSTi and using direct-from-disk (DFD) mode, it's probably the perfect freeware grand piano solution out there.

When I bought my Tascam US-122, it came bundled with Gigastudio 24 (which has MegaPiano bundled). I have not checked it out yet, but I will convert it to an SF2 using VSampler 3.04 and compare it side by side against Splendid256.

Thanks again for the feedback everyone :)

Thanks a lot for the 256 Sample. PeterL you gotta get Broadband to survive. The Software is getting bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger until it's pretty big. The broadband download was 117 Kbyte/sec and that aint the fastest i have seen. I was thinking about seeing if there were any new Piano's out there myself. I see Freeserve now offering Broadband at £14.99 a month which is pretty reasonable (for the UK) for the amount of hours i now spend on it. (that really sounds geeky and it most shamefully is). Mind you i see an awful lot of familar fellow geeks on this site. But nice Geeks of course. Or at least Artistic Geeky. Woooooo In the time it took to write this message i got the download.

Is the 256 mb piano still there? I couldn't find it. :?

I couldn't disagree more - it put me off from buying Sampletank at a time when I was considering it.
Yep me too. I was about to part with my hard earned cash, tried out the Free piano on Sampletank Free and thought it was awful.

I even made a track with it to see if it would sit in a mix and a mate of mine thought it was a GM sound from my PC.

Does anybody know about the quality of this one :
University of Iowa
Seems like a huge download, every note is sampled seperately with a natural decay! :-o

Peter.

now that the sfz format is available, you could download all those Iowa Uni samples and knock together a soundfont in a text editor in 2 minutes. :)

so who is going to do it? :P
