The case is - as others have said - largely symbolic, given that Mr. Casas is located thousands of miles from US jurisdiction.
I just ran across the article. Sorry that I didn't see the earlier posts.

What the hell?? I just read the article and the guy that cracked AND DISTRIBUTED the CineSamples software is a commercial sample developer himself! How f---ing low can you go? I knew there were some vendors out that will try to smear a competitor's name to get a leg up, but damn...this is just plain lowdown and dirty :(. I will never purchase anything from IceSamples after reading this.

Stay in Vegas, please. The US doesnt need any more ambassadors of your ilk.

Victory for anti piracy! :wheee:

For this publicity stunt Cinesamples has to pay tens of thousands of dollars, and receive nothing in return. :idiot:

The Chilean guy is prob like a Robin Hood over there right now. Famous and loved by every musician.

Lesson to anti piracy people: ATTACK THE ONES THAT ARE MAKING A PROFIT FROM IT! (like hundreds of ebay sellers for example)

Btw. US legal system seems a bit funny. If anyone from over there would make an accusation of me stealing from them.. and if i couldn't afford to fly there to defend myself i'd loose. Money = Justice.

The court case in question was not about that though.. he was distributing cinesamples stuff for free.

What is your source?

Don't get me wrong here.. I don't support piracy, and i hate artists who openly promote it (Avicii, Dahlback, Guetta & Garraud etc).

It was widely-discussed on VI-Control. Numerous instruments on his site were clearly not developed by him. Anyway, the court case might not have been about that, but it was well-known that he was infringing for profit in other ways. He does deserve to be punished.
