I used to do the 1 hour compos on irc too.. always was on the bottom of the standings list though
I still remember that song beek made with samples of him whistling.. back when he was in green grapes
the ppl on #trax were pretty mean though.. really close knit.. I used to hang out in #noise.. the guys in that group were/are really talented and friendly.
small world though..

If I'd say "yes" I guess I'd have to allow synths like Cameleon and Vertigo too...Markleford wrote:I'd really like to use my own additive resynthesis programs on the dll data: could that count as "your favorite audio editor"?
If I say "no" then maybe by the same logic people shouldn't be allowed to use things like Super Collider and CSound.
However the rules say you can only *cut and paste* data and pitch it, it doesn't say anything about resynthesising, and you can use things like supercollider to just cut/copy/paste.
So, "no".

Bram,
I'm spoken to a few mac people and it doesn't seem like we're able to access these plugins via our OSX means (soundhack / audacity). Importing works fine, and audacity will even play other files, but - with marc's destroyfx for example - they import with zero time and zero size.
Is this a known mac issue? We really got hosed on this one.
Oh well.
The PC files have been implied to work (the DLL files at least), but am I correct in assuming that the mac files can't be used at all (aside from maybe the .sit)? Check em411 for a bit more on this.

Don't know if this is allowed
, but here's a hint for those who need melodic phrases in their masterpiece and don't have enough with the Smartelectronix soft synth sounds: you could use KTGranulator to play your own frozen recorded audio over a range of 4 octaves using MIDI (keyboard or track). Just read the "read me" file that comes with the plugin (the part about "How to set a MIDI note range for a parameter" and the second remark about applying this to the transposition parameter). Win and Mac.

You can use the Audio Units, but not the CFM VST plugins without flattening the resource forks. Audio data in audio files is stored in the data fork, so that's all that these apps are looking in for the data. But the old-style CFM plugins have the executable and image resources all in the resource fork, so the data fork is empty. You can try running these through /Developer/Tools/Rez with the -useDF flag to flatten them into all data-fork-style resource files, for example.milque_dx wrote:I'm spoken to a few mac people and it doesn't seem like we're able to access these plugins via our OSX means (soundhack / audacity). Also, you can right-click on the AUs and choose "Show package contents" to get to the individual files within them, all of which are all data fork.
However, you're probably going to prefer using the Windows DLLs anyway. The reason is because they store the image resource data within the same file, and the data is uncompressed bitmap data. The image data, when uncompressed, tends to have a little more of a relationship to audio data than does executable data or compressed image data (which both the old-style CFM PICT resources and the PNG files that we're using in the AUs all are). I mean, go ahead an tinker with whatever you want, but I'm just saying that the Windows DLLs (the ones with custom GUIS) are more likely to contain non-audio data that sounds kind of interesting when interpretted as audio data.

i´m confused
.load up a raw file and export it to wave using Audacity ... hmm ?
.using Audicity too , can i load up whatever i want ?
.if not , how will you know ?
.i cannot use a sampler to sequence those samples , ok ? ... SmartElecTeam doesn´t have any samplers right ?
.i can use my favourite audio sequecer , right ?
... and i can use its integrated Fxs to work the files that once were Raw data
...if possible , correct any misunderstood rule
...
i believe it would be a lot easier and a lot more fun to do it , if using a SmartElectronix RawData sequencer

You can't load up anything you want, you have to load smartelectronix plugins. How will we know, we won't, but opening other stuff will sounds almost the same. And we trust you will only open smartelectronix plugins.DaGuest wrote:i´m confused

Rule nr4 is very clear on this:DaGuest wrote: .i cannot use a sampler to sequence those samples , ok ? ... SmartElecTeam doesn´t have any samplers right ? .i can use my favourite audio sequecer , right ? ... and i can use its integrated Fxs to work the files that once were Raw data![]()
You are allowed to pitch/stretch/cut the samples, use some basic DAW functionality like EQ and compressors.... You can use basic tools like a sampler to play back the sounds, loop them, ...

Okay Bram - big dumb song writer here again.
As for the song location upload, I mainly use SoundClick for my stuff ( www.soundclick.com/stevenwest ) It's easy for a dumb songwriter such as myself to upload and manage my tracks there, and I like 'em alot - and don't know much else about the world of MP3's and all.
Many have complained though they have to become 'a member' in order to hear my stuff, and/or if they try to download 'hi fi' versions, sometimes they don't work?
So is this okay to submit as location for my song entry? Or can you help me locate a good easy place to upload that's also good for you and the SE team to access?

Ok Smarties, I am watching this competition thread a long time now but it seems I damaged my brain to much with arabian stifniks so sorry for my questions:
- u said we can use your plugs, u said we can use GalactiX - so I used GalactiX and imported a wav because it cannot load others. Quality is good.
I use it now for competition as plug in in cubase
- I now use 10 instances of GalactiX with wav files made with Smarties Plugs n FX.
- what is this "raw" thing all about. U said we can use GalactiX
Xcuse for my language :-/
yours,
Salim
