personally if i was a dev, if i suspected my product was useful for the situation asked about, id hope that users of my product would share the love so to speak, if they didnt then id ask myself how could i improve on it, what is standing in the way of it being recommended.
the problem with some devs is they cant take criticism about their product, this then leads to arguments and eventual thread locks.

i understand that not all products will please everybody, but if a user/potential user informed me of a problem they where having i wouldnt say oh well we have users who do like it, id look at ways to improve on my product. or if i felt that a feature request was not applicable then id suggest trying a different product i felt already had it covered, this isnt like theyre then recommending competition if they have no desire to fill that gap.

as for users, let your wallets do the talking, dont like how a dev conducts themselves, dont buy their product? others may not have as much trouble with "spamming" by devs and may want what is on offer, let them make their own choices in that regard. but also devs, let user discuss your products shortcomings as well as give praise, that way everybody gets a fair idea of what is coming to them and you get a fair idea of what you need to do to improve on a product.

im with hink though, i hate walking into a shop and being pounced on by staff, i like helpful friendly staff who will answer questions but if im just browsing and they start suggesting shit, then they get no business from me.
even in mcd's "do you want frys with that?" is enough for me to say "i dont even want that now, byeeee!"

im going a little out of the way of this topic now, but hey, thats painkillers for you ...

I didnt call you a racist, I was just questioning your always-negative attitude towards me/my product. KVR isnt the only place you did this, you also did it on gearslutz, and inside my own thread! So I am sorry but I got really offended by your constant negative attitude.

There is quite a history behind a lot of the commentary between those two no doubt...the problem is is that some commentary does go OTT.

What I would like to know is what made michi-mak so irritated by kv331's mere existence? Especially to keep on about something three years later? :help:

I'm the type that, if I cannot say anything nice about a product, I'd rather just stay out of the thread...I feel no need to consistently hound someone... :?

uuuummmmm...one question. If, as a developer I also use other people's items, am I then a regular user? Or. Am I just a developer who happens to use other people's products? Where does one draw the line?

well everyones entitled to their own opinion, id rather hear the positives and negatives about a product, whatever these two think of each other as people is irrelevant in the long run, but to accuse someone of being racist where there is no evidence to suggest racism is out of order

i think theres a clear distinction between constantly suggesting ones own product and suggesting someone elses that fits the bill.
i can understand why a dev would prefer to suggest their own product, and im more than happy to read their suggestions when relevant, but id prefer user experience, from unbiased users.

for my own part, i try to weigh up the pros and cons of a product before i suggest it, to the point i even occassionally suggest synths i dont personally use or like so much, if i think they suit what is being looked for. obviously i find it hard to go into too much detail as i dont know the synth inside out as i do with things i use often, but if ive heard a track or audio demos, then i will often suggest trying product x demo, as a starting point.

Well, I sincerely apologize in that case. I just felt really really offended by that person's constant negative bashing/attacking attitude, and that was the entire reason for what I said priorly.

by all means question his negative attitude towards your product if it does offend you, just try to air your concerns in a more applicable manner to the situation.
i understand its upsetting to be bashed by someone after you have worked hard, but you need to bring it up in a way that isnt going to cause major problems for either one of you.

anyway, good luck with your synth :)

Lotuzia, do you get any payments for your collaboration with Xils? I have worked as a contractor a lot and even when I wasn't considered one of 'them' still the paycheck comes from their direction, and I had a vested interest in them having strong sales. Arguing that you aren't 'their employee' doesn't mean much to me, just semantics nearly. There is nothing wrong with being their employee or not, but it appears strange for you to go on about this. I've seen sound designers who are drawing some payment from a development house try and make the same distinction but ultimately you just need to look at the money trail. You are marketing their product not as an individual 'fan' but as someone benefitting from the sale of their products.
