@Talvin: I LOVE YOUR SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hyper:

I'm a HUGE fan of 80s music, and you definitely caught the Ultravox vibe! I saw Midge Ure in concert as a teen, and listening to this song totally brought me back to my teen years! Great Job!!! :tu:

Let me know when you get your album completed! :-)

I also grew up in the 80s so that's why I still have a strong connection to that kind of music. Thanks for your kind words.

What about the mix/version then? Better than 1.43/1.0?

The recording of this song is immaculate. The piano, guitars and synth sound great. I like the drums, especially the handclaps. The new bass groove gives a sense of movement. The vocals are very clear in the verse, but I'd cut out a bit around 100 hz or so from the instrumental in the chorus, because the vocals seem to get a bit buried in the guitars.

OK, I've been listening back and forth between 1.43 & 2.o to try to decide what I like better. As strange as it sounds, there are parts that I like from both versions:

Version 1.43: The vocals are a little more muddy than version 2 which I don't like, but I also like the delay tails. Version 2 has clearer vocals, but the delay tails seem to be pulled back into the mix. I suspect that the delay and the muddiness may both be tied together and it may be a give and take issue here. I'm not sure what i would recommend for this, unless you are interested in doing a lot of by-hand editing or using two tracks and a lot of automation. (You probably have a better idea as to what to do for this than I do.

Version 2: I really like how you've done the bass here. It comes out in the mix better and I really like how it sounds. The vocals are up front, but it seems the delay tails that I liked in 1.43 are missing or greatly reduced.

I hope this helps with your mixing! :-) As I said before, I really LOVE the song and your choice of instruments. Great job!

Thanks for listening again. :)
Actually there was a lot of reverb/effects which caused a lot of crackles and muddiness in V.1.4.3.
I mixed down the tracks, mostly without effects, and gave it to a friend for mixing. He really cleaned up the mix (v.2.0)but he hasn't got the same plugins, so there are not the same vocal effects than in the earlier versions.

After letting a musician friend do the last mixes I decided to try a new mix of my Ultravox tribute song. Guess that is the only way to get better...
I would be happy if you gave me some feedback on it.

Thanks :)

The only thing that I would change, would be to lower the volume of the clap sounds a little bit at the beginning of the song--the intro part before the rest of the instruments kick in. Otherwise, I like the entire mix! Good job! :-)

Thanks...again.

This is probably the final, mastered version of the song which was done by another homerecording musician. My thanks go to Soundmopi!
