im not putting it down, just wondering what makes it stand out amongst other synths?
preset wise, it floored me for a dedicated pad synth about how many presets i COULDN'T use. judging form the factory set, i didn't get this thing at all, i found it sounded hollow, dull and useless, and frankly, unplayable.

Retrologue is much much MUCH better.
What!? I'm sorry but you just can't compare Padshop to Retrologue, they're just about as different as two synths can be. What other granular synth comes close to Padshop Pro?

If you say that padshop sucks and retrologue rocks in one breath, it just reveals that you're complaining to a dog that it doesn't go 'Meow'.

Time for you to let go the presets, and work your own synthesis and create your own sounds and patches! Then you'll understand why people love Padshop so much :P

any ideas ?? anyone got this demo working on a mac ??

perhaps someone with a steinberg account could alert steinberg support about these issues, given that there appears to be no way of contacting them directly?

I should add that in my issue with padshop, I can import other samples but they will not play. So something seems to be rather broken in the current demo of padshop on the mac (audiounit)

Will PadShop run with windows XP? Everything I see at the website says Windows 7.

Grain Science but that is on the iPad.

I've got the 30 day demo of Padshop Pro and had a fiddle. I'm very glad I did and i'm glad demoing it convinced me not to buy it since I really can't afford any more virtual synths.

Some things I worked out:

1) those people having problems loading presets - you click the little drop down in the waveform display - navigate to padshop to find directories with presets THEN (this is important) when you click you need to wait for it to update. If you double-click it looks like it cancels the action and therefore doesn't load the preset. Really not intuitive but... :?

2) if you just chuck one of your own samples in you need to make sure you fiddle with the Duration knob - otherwise it won't play anything.

From my experience there is nothing here that i don't already have in Grain Science and Alchemy so i'm not going to bother. If you don't have either of those and don't mind fiddling, it is a decent and deep hybrid sampler / granular synth.

EDIT: BTW running on OSX 10.6.8 in Renoise and Reaper

Ok great, yes, clicking once then waiting works.

What a ridiculously clunky way of changing presets tho

I am tired of reading this sort of garbage, when a synth is a dedicated pad synth and the so called designers can not make one SINGLE sound i could EVER use, for me to be expected to be automatically be able to do something better.

lol roll your eyes as much as you want man and qualify what I say as 'garbage'' but it's not because YOU didn't like the presets that it means Padshop is a fail. What, you're the great mighty judge of the presets? In fact, you're pretty much the only one I've read mentioning that. But you hold the truth, don't you?

Realised that this isn't true - I am just changing the source sample with this method - which would be why it starts with the settings all on default. The true preset selector is that nameless dropdown, centre bottom. And as above... one click to select the preset. They do sound better than what I was getting before - still this synth isn't really selling itself being such an ass pain to use.

Hahaha the hugs, not sure here if you're sarcastic but: cool. Cheers for clarifying, as I found your reply with the garbage thing condescending at first. But yeah, cool man. Too bad you find the presets dull and lame, really. To be honest, I never care about presets and I tried less than 10 presets in Padshop before diving straight into its granular synthesis engine with my own field records, which are quite lush and amazing once you 'get' them.... But admit it, it's not the first time we have a good solid synth with poor presets. A bit like a really good book with a very ugly cover...
