Is there a way to do this without subsession ? Could be at plugin level or in the routing table ....

Thanks for your help

Think I can't answer your qestion... but I am curious.

I can't imagine something at VST plugin level - except if this plugin is a subhost. I think this idea is similar to have a plugin to change the audio routing... I can't imagine that either - except this happens in a subhost.

Can you give some examples for your needs of dynamic midi routing changes and their purpose?

I'm myself interested in the topic of dynamic midi routing change (as well as some other more complex midi change stuff) and have investigated some basics. Things get more difficult if you have pending states in a routing - most obvious pending notes - but some others too like sustain. During a routing transition the old routing must be partially active until pending states have been properly resolved while the new one has to come into effect immediately. I guess you can imagine that's not really easy to do - especially if you also wish to route between ports, which I think users expect.

To be honest, I'm mad about perfect transition state changes on any level in live music software but there are still today many unresolved issues in a lot of software. Cut notes or rumble during patch changes is probably the most obvious one. I assume this is because VST technology was intended for studio use and many live issues are a minor issue here.
