Reaper Updates?

Anyone know how cockos implement new features? as far as new versions go? 1-2-3-4 ect?
Let's say they are at version 4.0.. do they add all the new features that are going to be in 5.0 at the end of the 4.x update cycle?
or do they add big features at 5.0?
The reason I ask is.. it seems afaict. they seem to add most of the features right before the next version number(say 4.95) and then release the next version with a few minor updates? not sure. also. when you pay for a licence it covers you til the end of the Next version.. seems they do it a bit differently than other devs.
with something like cubase they don't add anything but fixes and then add a couple things at a .5 release and then when the next version 7 comes out they add a slew of new features that were not in the previous versions.
just curious. cool either way.
basically asking.. will reaper 5 have any major features added that are not going to be in version 4.x? or is it known that most of it is already in version 4?
what was in the change log from the latest version of reaper 3 to reaper 4.0?

Yes. v5.00 will be > V4.xx Have a look at the jump between v3.76 and v4.00
And, at most, only a select few know what the last 4.xx version will be. My guess - no-one knows at the moment.

3.78 was the last "3" and then now we are at 4.261
Development has been slow lately. It's taking quite some time between updates. I seriously doubt we'll get anywhere near .7x in the 4 region.

It's nowhere written that each new version will be a 3 month wait...

I suspect 4.4 or 4.5 max at their rate this time around.
v4.0 was released August 3rd of LAST year. So we are already a year into v4.X and only at 4.261 released... that tells me .26 in a year revision increase and REAPER whole number upgrades happen every year and a half or so. Therefore, we have probably around half of a year left -- 4.4 or 4.5.

I expect Reaper to be like all other software I used - a new release contains bugfixes and new features.
If any major new features version is updated with stepped major version.
So I don't expect 5.0 contain only new features - and putting bugfixes and minor features in 4.95 or similar. It's just an ongoing process. To demand that would be gready from our user perspective.
So if they now jump from 4.26 to 5.0 is ok by me, even though I have to pay again since my updates are until 4.99(bought 3.6). The pricing of Reaper is silly cheap compared to competition anyway.

Isn't the current purchase deal with Reaper until 5.xx?
So why worry?

Assuming there will be a 4.99. They might jump from 4.6 to 5.0. It's a unusual bargain in any case.hibidy wrote:5.99 to be exact. I'm good until 4.99. I've got a ways to go.
But yeah, i'm good through 4.99 also.
