Next decade, I'm going to make a DIY high-end console. I hope I'm going to finish it before I went to eternal hunting grounds. :hihi:
Ha ha. I know. I've got enough electronic parts to build a Tardis. It's shameful. I'm a born hoarder. I keep telling myself that one day I'll build a electronics lab/shed in the garden to have all this stuff permanently set up. But that requires more tools....

/Goes to see how much sheds are at B&Q. :)

What a relief... there are others too, I thought i was the only one... who cares whether I need it or not, it works something like: Want = must have and must have it now!

I bought the IK 670 ages ago for $20 no brainer. If anyone remembers how long ago that was, I think it was last summer. Anyway, I haven't used it this whole time, not because I forgot about it, I just didn't have a use for it, or rather I didn't know how to make it work for me.

Tried it out again the other day and had a eureka moment, it sounds great and I am so happy I have it.

I've has a really bad case of GAS, specifically over the last year.
I went full circle from hardware only (1985-2001)
which transition into VST/AU only (2004-2010)
and now into a hybrid-chimera-jabberwocky DAW/VST + multichannel audio interface + MIDI/Audio hardware + hardware sequencers rig (2011-today)

I messed around briefly with iOS (iPad 2) midi + synths (2011), but found it was too clumsy to incorporate and just befuddled me with too many variables at that point. I sold the iPad2 before the 3 came out. The only thing I miss about it truthfully is the fact that I paid a bunch-o-money for apps that won't run on my iPod Touch... and I'll never see that money again, you know?

Someday when I'm bored and actually have free time + drive, I'm gonna make art on cardboard to make physical representations of the primary VSTs I use, and put them around the 'studio' (whatever room I set up in the house). That way I can see physical representations of the software I have purchased and choose them to 'play' when I'm writing music. And in this artistic endeavour, I shall make the physical size of said facsimiles proportionate to represent the complexity of the respective VST.

I remember when I thought I was the shiznit when I had 3 synths + a sampler (JX8P, Kawai K1-II, Alpha-Juno, Akai S-01) and a TR-505 drum machine. Can you imagine if we did the same for just Komplete 8? There wouldn't be enough room in my house.

Daaaayyyyyymmmm, the Omnisphere 'hardware' is gonna be one huge mothership, with a bazillion coat buttons and colored glass 'rocks' glued on there...

(insert that picture here off the interwebs [which I cannot locate at this moment] of that guy wearing no shirt and some sort of goofy paper machee helmet/hat, playing a bunch of Casios, cheesball toy soundmakers and 3rd-grade art class 'equipment')

yeah, although software is waay more practical to use, hardware feels more like you really HAVE something, more special I guess. Software is so much easier to have, to obtain, to use, to replace, to exchange, but yet so much more forgettable, if you know what I mean.

And indeed, hardware gives the simple yet effective restriction of room space. Hard drives just don't. Need.. more.. boundaries.. to.. restrict.. :borg: :-o :help:

I've been pretty good recently, though I have slipped in the last week or so.

I waited and waited for just the right time to upgrade to Komplete, and other than that, it's just been buying and selling and re-buying Alchemy and Zebra, for the most part.

I've had sample acquisition syndrome (SAS) for a while now. The lack of extra room on my hard drive has been pushing me towards preset acquisition syndrome (PAS) lately. My plug-in acquisition syndrome (PIAS) has almost been completely satisfied, the ones I like are now so good that I don't need much else.

Those are all sound sources, Maschine is a writing tool. Use those within Maschine and you'll have a perfect system. :)

With all the talk of GAS I too thought I had an affliction as I was buying stuff left right and center, but like others has mentioned here it seems it was just about getting the right inventory as there was no urge once I got the complete studio I wanted.

And even if it was a lot of stuff in terms that they were many items, it's the same or even less as what I paid for a single hardware synth before software, and no one would even dream of thinking I was a shopaholic for getting a board, so obviously one can think one has a problem without that being true at all.

GAS . I try to sell something of mine Im not using , whether it be guitars or softwares , then I feel I can buy either something used or new that I want . Most recently I got a used like new novation remote mk11 sl 25key midi controller on ebay for $199 , what a deal . I also used Linux software for audio stuff for a year and didn't buy any windows vst software , I may do that again someday it felt good . I also flip flop between DAW software all the time , thats a really bad habit . G.A.S. and A.D.D. is a poor excuse for me too not finish songs or music and buy / play with a new toyS , its loads and loads of fun though . Right now I got my eye on getting some drum samples from Waveshapers , they got all kinds of cool crap on that site like 12 bit acoustic sets to russian and old school drum machines and lofi synth noise stuff . I need to get these and play around with em seeing I know it wont break the bank either !! GAS GAS .....

It seems, as a society, we are becoming ever more about instant, personal amusement than actually about anything.

Self expression? nahh.. human/civil rights of ourselves and others? nahh.. I reserve the right to express my butt in this lazy-boy recliner, fill my pie hole with processed crap, and chuckle at the amusing nonsense on the glowing box or err.. rectangle..

Think about the generations of the past 100 or so years.. we've had (at least in the US) civil rights era, womens rights, WWII (in which the country largely came together for the country), prohibition, workers rights, space shuttle/station/telescope(s), etc

But what about the '00s or now the 'teens ? We've had greedy business collapse.. dot-com bubble burst.. housing market bubble burst.. We had Myspace.. now we have Facebook.. and TWITter.. we can share all kinds of information with one another across vast reaches of the planet.. but most of it is self-centered, indulgent, garbage.

GAS in the music production realm is not much different.. It can be an excuse to remain solely personally amused than to be about anything larger or to work to the end on something... to follow it through. We're becoming lazier as a whole I'm afraid. :(
