Omnisphere is impractical for commercial dancepop. Is there anything better?

You can do pretty much anything in Omnisphere - it certainly is not just for one type of music. In fact it has lots of tools for creating those sort of sounds, a very powerful synth engine, lots of waveforms, powerful envelopes, great stereo spread and unison tools (inc Harmonia), lots of modulations, and lots of effects

Have you looked at samples like for instance Prime Loops, usable in song construction.

Get U-HE DIVA and Zebra, ACE they have many commercial preset banks for EDM music more editability than Nexus. Omnisphere was my first synth I still use it in most tracks but DIVA, Zebra and ACE are far better for bread and butter sounds.

I guess Eric Persing is eligible for the million bucks, if you look at this product demo at around 5-6 minutes, he basically nails that string-synth sound just playing sawtooth oscillators in Omnisphere[/url]

I was going to suggest Eric could pull that off with no problem, but I have doubts about the OP having a million bucks.

Eric doesnt get even remotely close all he does it make a thin sound bigger whoopie doo! How are you gonna use that? It which commercial project will it fit? Omnisphere is how Eric puts it 'really cool' and thats great if you just want to sit down and have a little fun. Its a 'fun' way to make music but is it practical in commercial world. The answer is no. I get how people can fall in love with it because it gives the user a feeling he is in control and creating something but what he creates through this synth is not tight, is not unique, just a whole bunch of droning and ambiance thats about as useful as bulls with tits unless your producing film or computer game stuff. If you are then the multi live mode is about the best feature. The sounds on their own are useless for dance.

you're missing the point...the only point of that demo was to show that in very little time, using some neat features, something can be made out of nothing....

are you trying to assert that this is all the work someone like eric (or anyone, for that matter) would put into a patch ??

none...that goes for most patches in most synths....all patches that exist in their own space will need various amounts of tweaking to fit into your own project or your own mix

Many will say with ANY synth to 'throw out the presets' to get the most from it and while Omnisphere is a preset beast, this is as true with it as anything else if you are looking for your own specific sounds. I don't see how it is limited at all to atmospheric stuff. I own Trilian which is very similar and it is great just as a synth, Omni has to be at least as good at that job. I can understand if you say that you don't like the workflow but regarding the sound I don't see how you can think Omni can't do it. Now if you just want presets then Nexus is your choice but that isn't Omniphere's limitation really, but yours.

You're clearly at a different level than me (judging by your site). Ive been a songwriter for many years and am at a professional level. You my friend do music as a hobby. This whole sound design thing to me however is new (my genre is rock/country) and I find it a little tedious and frustrating. Im used to real instruments using actual technique not spending hours tweeking at some bloody computer. So when I pick up a guitar or play keyboard I expect it to sound fantastic.

But when you pick up a guitar do you expect it to sound like a keyboard and then go on the internet to a guitar forum to complain about it? It is a case of a bad workman quarreling with his tools. 'At a professional level' means nothing, look at all the professionals making a mess in the world. That is a load of crap.
