Omnisphere is impractical for commercial dancepop. Is there anything better?

Really? So patronizing does not qualify as arrogance. Ok, you learn new things every day.
i wasn't patronising you, i was insulting you (as a lowly hobbyist, i can only look up...not down)

it started with you getting your panties in a bunch because you missed the point of the omnisphere demo...what followed was some light-hearted jokes at which point you, rightfully, pulled rank

if it isn't clear already, you're kinda my hero :)

I can't be arsed to go through all the bickerfesting going on here.

But I might suggest something. Your approach is totally worgn.

Since you seem to talk about being so 'professional' where is your music then?

You're clearly at a different level than me (judging by your site). Ive been a songwriter for many years and am at a professional level. You my friend do music as a hobby. This whole sound design thing to me however is new (my genre is rock/country) and I find it a little tedious and frustrating. Im used to real instruments using actual technique not spending hours tweeking at some bloody computer. So when I pick up a guitar or play keyboard I expect it to sound fantastic.
Oooh, mr. Hot Shot!

Maybe you should look for another career path? I think being a dustbin man would suit your attitude better. I hear they play a lot of commercial dance pop in their garbage trucks, so should be right up your street really :P

Im a dustbin man and I object to that comment :)

Actually I do a bit.

I just love this synth. I needed some background strings for a D&B track I was working on yesterday. I tried a range of specialised libraries...to no avail. Then I remembered some of the strings patches in Omnisphere...it instantly nailed it.
To the OP: man, you really need to relax.

Have you looked at samples like for instance Prime Loops, usable in song construction.

Not sure about that, but this is clearly not a synth guy.

Fair enough. He already got his answer. He wants a "dance only preset synth workhorse" which means he wants Nexus 2.

This thread could have ended there.

Omnisphere is what it is. It is a synth that can be used for "commercial" anything, including dance.

Now, whether it nails the sound in some Rihanna video, or whether it can sound just as you would have it, that's another issue and I think worrying about it will lead to a lot of tail chasing.

I would suggest to the OP that he do a bit more research before dropping $400+ on a product based on assumptions about what it can do. There are plenty of videos demoing the sounds of Omnisphere so you aren't shooting in the dark if you bother to do the research first. That will save you from complaining and confronting on forums in frustration after the purchase.
