1. C - Allow cover songs but not your own
2. 3rd Party banks allowed
3. Voluntary
Actually I'd prefer is 3rd party banks were not used, but I don't like too many rules. We want to keep it free and easy if you ask me. Lets not make it too serious. Thats my opinion on it. What synth we doing next month? I wish I had time to enter this month. I've been so busy.

True, but in a way it's the same for commercial effect plugins. No one can really find out if used, but the outlawing at least minimizes it. I think the end usage is greatly affected that there is a rule about it, even if virtually unenforcable.SuperNoise wrote:For point no.1 and no.2 one general remark. Of course these rules sounds really nice but the are in fact dead rules. Everybody will do what he is doing so far even in case he is not according to the rules, because nobod is able to recognise him.

Coming back to the thread and reading the opinions, it made me think.. who the heck cares just make whatever you feel like cover or no cover, doesn't matter.. commercial presets, hell yeahhhhh.. after all, not that everyone is good in sound design, so they pay the price for that limitation and buy the sounds... you wanna keep the tools as your secret weapon, well okay then.. we all know that you put Vlad's Limiter at the end and used preset #5.. huh
But, at the end of the day we have to have some rules
Now let me go back and polish my Dune track.. where is that damn LimiterNo6?

This kind of thinking I always call - politics - the best solusion from all bad proposals and sugestions. In this sense you are completly right.V'ger wrote:True, but in a way it's the same for commercial effect plugins. No one can really find out if used, but the outlawing at least minimizes it. One B, Two B, Three B's for me.
On a side note: Seeing as we are using a magazine synth this month, and as for just $5 now anyone can easily download the entire CM collection, perhaps magazine plugs could be allowed? Maybe worth a vote?

But I believe certain plugins will only appear in certain magazines and therefore not available to all? (those who missed that edition)

I only downloaded the mac version and many plugs were dating back a few years. I was surprised to see Dune CM in there as I thought it was only part of the previous month's issue. I can download the pc one tomorrow and make a list of what's there.

Yes I know there will be a stash of 'permanent' stuff, but I mean sometimes they have one off features, like for example GURU CM that time or DiversionFX CM recently.

Yeah, just downloaded all the pc plugs and neither GeistCM or DiversionFX is there. Looking at the description on their website I could see how DiversionFX could be an unfair advantage.
Here's the weird thing though, on the DiversionFX website it says:
"HOW TO GET DIVERSIONFX CM
The plugin can be obtained from the CM176 DVD, as well as from DVDs of every subsequent issue of the magazine. Visit Computer Music website to learn more about the magazine."
Every subsequent DVD... maybe it's supposed to be there?

Turns out DiversionFX CM is included in the download, I just didn't see it. Here's the full list:

edit: really the only plugs I was hoping to use for OSC were the DDMF eqs, but I just tried them out and mid/side is disabled in the CM version - which is what I really wanted to use them for. So my personal interest in allowing magazine effects for the contest is rapidly waning. There really doesn't seem to be much there that would be useful within the parameters of the contest.PC_Software:

Ok bad example with DiversionFX if it's a regular CM fixture, but Geist CM is not on the list and was in last edition (181). So if we're to vote on CM's, then it must be from the 'regular' software pack which I can foresee could become a source of confusion..

32 and 64 bits, Win and Mac, etc.
I'm very impressed with these BlueCat Audio stuff.
Have a good day
