Will the sound of it be the same as zebra?

Post

No, the flux capacitor that Diva filters add will give it more OOMPH! :D

Note - experimenting with Diva may contain trace amounts of time travel. So if you see your future self, just let that handsome devil go on his way.

If you are using VCF, Comb or XMF it should sound the same at any setting. If you are using D-VCF or D-HPF, these the Diva filters and are only available in ZebraHZ.

I'm sorry but this question makes no sense. If you don't want a filter, remove the VCF, D-VCF, or XMF device from the signal chain. Only what you place is what is used.

ZebraHZ is Zebra2, just with new modules (the Diva filters and per-lane compressors). About 70-80% of the Dark Zebra presets actually don't use any of the HZ features, showing how powerful a synth Zebra2 really is in the right hands. :)

The only sound processors that are always present on lanes in HZ that are not present on Zebra2 are the per-voice lane compressors. And those are can be set to [ OFF ] in the VCA Comps page.

I'd say exactly what bmrzycki said.

I understood the question to mean: is there coloration added to the sound with a Diva filter fully open?

And I am presuming the answer remains: no affect if the cut off is all the way open.

Post

Well, I have tested ZebraHZ and its Diva filters.

And I can say: yes, D-VCF filter sounds different to usual VCF and XMF when fully open without resonance.

This is very easy noticeable visually on oscilloscope for sawtooth waveform, and on spectrum analyzer for sine wave. And this coloration is also audible. Ladder has nice saturation with odd and even harmonics, cascade colorize sound much less (but sound a bit more "open"), multimode seems hasn't any coloration and Bite rev1 has odd and even harmonics, but rev2 has only odd harmonics (but sound "strong").

As for real use with non-static cutoff all these filters has unique character, but to say the truth when I tryed to replace usual filters on my patches with D-VCF, many patches not gain much from this replacement. It is sound design and patch structure that is matter more. But some patches got new gorgeous sound, with this "expensive" sheen, and my English can't describe it finer due to lack of words.

Also I have to state that new Zebra filter from Tyrell is a very good toy too. It definetely has its own character! Maybe somewhat dull for me, but nonetheless.

Addition: There is usual Zebra patches available in ZebraHZ Patch browser, but only global ones. U-he, can you also make available local user patches from usual Zebra?

They are all there, in the "Zebra2" folder. Or did I misunderstand?

I think what he means is he cannot access the Local Preset area in both HZ and Z2. I think the symlink for the Local preset directory isn't created. Just a guess though. :)

Ah yes - he means the User folder. "Local" is global ;).

Yes, sorry for terms confusion.

So I need to create symbolic link in Local folder to User folder? Or may be Folder Alias would be sufficient?
