So, what do you play. I'd like to know the makeup of KVRians.

For Keyboard, that includes synths, electric piano, organs and piano
For Guitar and Bass, that includes electric and acoustic instruments

You forgot the "I have no knowledge of music theory what so ever, but play a pirate copy of fruity loops" option

I myself play everything, keys, drums, guitar (well, not everything) and I'm a trained singer, but my most favourite instrument to play for pure enjoyment is bass guitar, so I introduce myself as a bassist.

started and went thru school on trumpet and played the professionally for decades and then i realized its a lot of work that people don't even get, nobody knows high notes are hard and remarkable etc etc. literally wasting my breath.

so i got a flute to see how lame my left hand was and that was fun so then i got a sax, partly because i met my gf and she plays trumpet and we started working as a horn section and its better to have trumpet and sax than 2 trumpets.

compared to trumpet sax is a cakewalk. like 100 times easier. people like it 100 times more too. less work more fun!

and then i got into adding in yamaha wx5 windsynth/vl70m for years and then i added a laptop to that and before long that became my main instrument, tho i still bring and play trumpet and sax on gigs i spend the most time on windsynth.

used nuendo as a host for awhile and just switched to reaper.

i play full multi-keyboard parts using multiple insert piz here midichords so like on single ladies (put a ring on it) i have all the keyboard parts (5 i think) as well as her live version horn section all going at once.

and its 1000 times easier than sax or trumpet and people come up and say its the coolest thing theyve ever seen and that never happened on trumpet or sax.

its controversial among some musicians tho, even when they dont have the sound and part ready to go keyboard players get irked when i cover their parts, as well as guitar players when i cover that stuff. i have things like "dont stop believin" programmed in for when the sub guitarist im playin with doesnt know it, or doesnt want to play it, and the crowd wants it and they get irked when the crowd is fooled applauds at them.

one guy was cool, he was like go ahead play it and he pretended to play it with his teeth, holding the guitar in front of his face.

thing about windsynth is you can cover the guitar part exactly, but you can play those licks faster and easier so its sounds like youre a really really good guitarist. like the opening scale to that solo in the middle i didnt even know was there till i did my chart cause noone id played with had done that note for note.

but thats the other nice thing is if it gets too controversial i can fall back and play some other sound, like congas etc. anything is possible and its cool how things keep improving so fast.

Primary instruments are bass and keys, but bass was my main instrument in college, during my gigging/session playing days, so I went with that. I also played trumpet through high school, but haven't really touched one since college, and I play a little bit of guitar.

I went for other as I change my mind a lot.

Things I can play well: guitar, bass, diatonic harmonica, mandolin

Things I can play OK: keyboards, concert flute, bansuri, dizi, alto sax, 5 string banjo, tin whistle, chromatic harmonica, recorder

Things I still don't play that well: trumpet, violin

Things I don't own but can play: drums, congas

Bass (fretless) and guitar (mainly rhythmic) in the summer as I have a huge balcony and keyboards + tempest in the studio.

I use to play cornet when I was a kid but only for the time I was in love with the daughter of the local captain of the salvation army. It's funny that after all these years I still remember the fingering for the main octave, and the girl's name too.

I took some sitar lessons when I was in India and traveled with it all around, even in the Himalayas

, I think it ended up in my brother's basement. Had fun to play it but tuning it was a real pain. Lately, animoog made me play a morning raga I used to practice, watching the sun raise over the Anapurna.

Speaking about animoog, I had it on 3 iPads controlling a single or multiple vsti and this makes a pretty cool new instrument with new opportunities, like having a different scale on each instance.
