Is there any synth out there that has the sound quality of U-He Diva?

There are some good points in there Ingo. However, I don't think URS is particularly arrogant compared to other developers. I have Diva and Xils-Lab synths and they both sound awesome, the best synths out there at the moment among with maybe Saurus that I didn't try actually really. Oh and Tal-Uno of course too, that sounds so very close to my real Juno-60 (closer than maybe I can get with Diva)! 0dfb filters are the standard now, true that Xils Lab had them already in place but didn't advertise them. But also with 0dfb filters you can have different approaches as far as I've understood...
circuit modeling and 0-dfb filters are cool

So you're callng me arrogant, right? Because other developers reference my product?Ingonator wrote: In fact the real problem is about ARROGANCE...
Since Diva was released it's no longer possible for any developer to release a new synth without the inevitable comparison with Diva. People are no longer judging a synth based on it's own features and sound, it's all about "is this equal or better than Diva or not?".)

Yes, indeed.penguinfromdeep wrote:But also with 0dfb filters you can have different approaches as far as I've understood...
And as always: Zero-delay feedback topology alone doesn't do a Minimoog clone. There is way, way more involved in making a softsynth sound like its analogue counterpart.
Actually, the zero-delay feedback path in the filter isn't all that important. It's just the icing on the cake.

Fair enough. I sometimes am, because it's often the only way to deal with the amount of rubbish that we have thrown at us - just for making a really good product. Not even our most successful one, but certainly the one that got the most attention as of late.Ingonator wrote:Not as your usual behavior (most of the time you are very friendly and helpful) but sometimes yes...Urs wrote:So you're callng me arrogant, right?Ingonator wrote: In fact the real problem is about ARROGANCE...

Hey what have you been eating Ingo? U-he might be a nerd but that has nothing to do with arrogance, it's just passion.Ingonator wrote: ARROGANCE...
Just like FXpansion synth squad, DIVA has been released as THE synth that is going to take us to back to pure analog sound. It' s just marketing BS, these guys have to sell their synths, so that does not equal arrogance either though slogans like "not just another softsynth" might look like it. They are not worse than so many other products that are claimed to be revolutionary.
Blame the fans for the threads or the devs who compare their synth with DIVA if any at all.
If you still think it has something to do with arrogance, you should at least make references to concrete remarks, because otherwise it looks like assumptions made ex nihilo.
Cheers

Yes the sync sounds stellar in my highly biased opinion.Gonga wrote:I just demoed Oxium - the oscillators sounded wonderfully rich and the sync sounded smooth and silky.
I couldn't test it fully because the demo doesn't seem to permit midi learn. I'd like to test the sync sweep beyond just two octaves and put it under a pedal. I'm no longer in the market because I have all the synths I need for the time being, but I have to say demoes that are hobbled don't sell the product so well as fully-functional ones do imo. I like to be able to take it for a spin if you know what I mean.
Well you can do it very easily with the demo version : Just assign the mod wheel, or aftertouch to the OSC 2 frequency in the mod matrix, then eventually map aftertoutch or breath controller to your pedal CC number ( Usually cc4 for expression pedal ) And there you go.
Well actually the choice for demo versions is usually either time limited, and more access to all functions, or non time limited versions with a few restrictions. If a demo version has the same exact features than the real one AND is not time limited, then we have a little problem, dont we ? .
Oxium demo is not time limited (ie you'll still be able to run it in 1 year, so this awfull temptation to get it will remain intact ...

Proud may be a better word than arrogant.
This is just basic competition, Diva set the bar very, very high, so other synths will get compared to it.
Is it annoying? Yes it is! But it's not Urs or any other U-He team member who makes these comparsions, it's the userbase.
Urs never really advertizes his products here, there are just a few threads about U-He stuff outside of the U-He forum which were started by Urs or another U-He team member.
"Sometimes" discussions about technical aspects of Diva pop in other threads and Urs probably simply tries to defend months of hard work. Days after Diva came out suddenly everyone claimed to have done the same research within a few days. Urs probably just wants to make sure that everyone understands that that's simply not the case.
He probably doesn't even want to say that Diva is "better", he just wants to defend his work.
Just my 2 U-He fanboi cent
And now enjoy your vacation Urs!
Cheers

Okay. Here is context enough for you to see what I am talking about:Ingonator wrote:This is exactly what i meant with my last sentence in that post. People always take a single sentence (without taking the whole context into account) or in this case a single word and turn it against me.IncarnateX wrote:Hey what have you been eating Ingo? You could also check my last replies to Urs for some additional explanations.
Ingo
Now will you please quote the threads you are reffering to, so that your interpretations on this can be checked?Ingonator wrote:Then there were those comments by Urs more or less claiming that his approach is the only valid onee. Did everone forget that Xils Lab already had 0df filters before Diva was even planned? They just dind't mention it as they didn't think it's important...
Then there was the thread where George collected synths that use 0df filters and at a reply Urs deleted Diva from the list with the justification that Diva is far ahead all those others so it would be kind of a offense having it in that list (this is how i understood this...).
Is this arrogant behavior or not? I don't even want to give more examples
As a PH.D in whatever, being asked for sources shouldn't be that alienating.

Yes, indeed.
.........
There are as many differences between different 0df filters that you could find in non 0df filters before. Its really that simple.
Non 0df filters CAN sound good, and more interesting, imho, than just "good" "bad" "better" "worse", unique and particular. Idem for ODF filters.
Some real analog synths did not have self resonnance, and some others ones only in a very limited range ( as my Juno 60 that needs to be pushed to extreme - say above 9.2 out of 10- to get .... a really noisy, but effective- one )
Its true : A synth is a sum, and the signal path just shows it . Filters are just a part of the sum. Important part, but nevertheless, a part ...
