Is there any synth out there that has the sound quality of U-He Diva?

A proper CS-80 simulation MUST pay particular attention to aftertouch
Wouldn't we need a polyAT controller?
Polyphonic aftertouch controllers: (I think only the first one is in production)
VAX77
Kurzweil MIDIBoard
Roland A80
Roland A50
Ensoniq SQ-80
Ensoniq VFX
Ensoniq VFX-SD
Ensoniq ASR-10
Ensoniq TS-10
Sequential Circuits Prophet-T8
Yamaha DX1
SynthAxe
General Music GEM S Series workstations
Elka MK88 Master Controller

The Rhodes pianos has PolyAT as well (still in production).

The Synclavier VPK had it as well (same keyboard as the Prophet T8 ) and the Rhodes Chroma had a PolyAT option as well (they even make new ones for it,that's pretty remarkable). Other than that i believe the list is complete.

I'm not 100% certain but i think the DX1 didn't transmit PolyAT but only used it internally but i've never gotten complete confirmation of that.

Obviously there was the Yamaha CS 80 as well but since that one didn't have midi it isn't a controller.

The reason there are so few on the market today i believe is simply because so few people wants it. Technically it shouldn't be any problem implementing it nor would it be expensive.

It's like the 303 cartridge for my ATC-1, it doesn't make it sound like a 303 but it does make it sound different from when the Mini, SEM, or 2600 cartridges are used. DIVA with selectable 303 modules would be incredible!

Anyway, the 303 is just an example that _leras brought up. I'm a huge D16 fan. :)
I have d16 Phosycon and ABL2, but have still used Massive to tear up some cool 303 style basslines...

not true... at least not deliberately.

are you lotozia in disguise? the guy who's happy to slate of one of his paying customers for having the temerity to once say he didn't like one of the synths he'd paid for...

So very true that.

I think what it comes down to in a measure of quality in synths, is attention to detail, and it's clear, (to me anyway) that both Diva and Zebra have that to the extreme.
It takes a lot of patience and effort to get to that level of detail.

One thing I believe is that Diva is actually more tonally versatile than other analogue emulations. I can get more variety from it, than I first assumed could be possible with an analogue emulation.
I did not have a favorable opinion of analog emu synths, prior to it, except for impOSCar, and TAL Ele7ro. Although those do not have much diversity of tonal ranges. Diva does have a variety of tones, I could not get out of other analogue emulations.
Very similar to Zebra in that regard as well, in the digital type realm.

Ingonator wrote:Currently the most inspiring synths for me also based on the presets i already made with them are Tone2 Saurus (150+ presets) and Waldorf PPG Wave 3.V (2200+ presets).
Others i am currently working with are e.g. Tone2 ElectraX (also with help of the wave Designer plugin), XilS Lab Oxium, TAL U-NO-LX, Arturia Jupiter 8V and KV331 Audio Synthmaster 2.5.
I'm going to try Saurus based on your many recommendations here. I tried Oxium and U-NO-LX, as well, but they don't provide noticeably better CPU performance than DIVA does, which is really the only reason I'd want a DIVA alternative.

The trouble with Diva's "divine" mode is that one feels obliged to use it ;-).

Thanks, I appreciate that. I won't delete the demo then

Oxium sounds really, really good, and it's an amazing value.
Thanks :)

Lots of realtime tweaking (e.g. turning Cutoff and/or Resonance knob) involved in those. In the first example the filter was switched to use 3 poles only for an emulation of a 18dB/oct filter.

Here, a DIY Saurus Nylon Guitar pluck patch. There is more than one way to skin the cat.

Nylon Saurus

I'm no guitar player though (and it can be heard lol).

and by the way, why are people posting WAV files? These don't play as smoothly as mp3s in the KVR player. It's not as if the extra detail in the WAV file will allow the thread scientists to dissect the sound into sub atomic particles.

Live does not output mp3 so I have to take the wav elsewhere to convert... so many of my older sounds I posted as wav's cause it was easier... I have a fast easy workflow now to convert so everything new I post is mp3 (cannot speak for others reasons)

Here is a preset I made last night

Indeed. Just like I always render my DCAM tracks at 32x oversampling, just so I know I'm getting the best possible fidelity (even if, with many patches, the difference between 4x and 32x is all but inaudible).

I've had the pleasure/necessity of working with DIVA on a Core i7 the last couple of days (due to a house fire back in July, I'm temporarily stuck in the guest cabin with no extra unused bedroom to set up the old recording equipment, so I'm forced to work on music on the same PC I just bought for work/internet for now, which is considerably faster than my old Q6600 recording PC). It's quite a thing to be able to set DIVA at 8 voices in Divine mode, play chords with overlapping release and not hear crackling.

OK, I'm a bit late to the game here on Diva. I just now finally tried the demo...

Are you f**king kidding me? No really... Are you f**king kidding me.

I would very much like to be smoking whatever it is the u-he guy is smoking.

First of all, the default quality setting totally blows up my i5 when playing a triad. That's bonkers! I've never experienced that before. I don't have the greatest computer but even yesterday I had an audiomulch patch running with 3 synths, a drum machine, 2 instances of Amplitube, and a few Nomad Factory EQs. I was at under 70% of my CPU. And Diva has been optimized to be 40% more efficient? I wouldn't have gotten a single note out of itin it's original release

Oh, the demo limitation that has the same sound as my CPU breaking up is funny too. Nice touch.

Anyway, I was able to play it on the lowest quality setting and between the variety of modules and the sound... no, nothing sounds like this. I'm actually walking around my house in a stupor right now. I want to sell everything I have including my girlfriend and sit in a dark room with this thing forever.

I did not understand what the fuss was about having a few very nice synths myself, but consider me another fanboy. It's as if u-he went into my brain and replicated everything I've always dreamed of. It's ridiculous and shocking really.

Try clocking the Multithreading button, you should get much better performance I do believe. My machine a brand new i7 runs Diva patch Bud Pluck which used to kill my old computer @ 1.5 % cpu now with multithreading enabled. At least U-Haul warns you that it requires a modern cpu :-)

Wait, scratch that 1.5%, on Divine it peaks at 4% but that isn't bad :) I really don't even think of the CPU at all after upgrading.
