To me, this sounds more like trance stuff. The arpeggio is way to melodic I think. Filters are pretty much in place but as a whole, I think the track isn't gritty enough

But then again, I'm old and very biased

Pacha, yours sounds more like German techno than anything, using a Acid synth patch. K-Bee's is very close, though I think the drums ended up with some cheap reverb on them, & usually all work was done on tape in the 80s. (<< the missing link)

it's basically a 303 with a more modern digital section (dinsync, midi, usb, eeprom)
you can build it yourself from a kit or buy a pre-built unit (there's plenty of em too, new and 2nd hand) just make sure to visit the adafruit forums first and check out the respected sellers

i'm fairly new to acid music myself too.. 1982 i wasn't even born yet
my impression is: keep it simple, use some of those old drum machines (606 808 909 707 and similar) and don't go too far with the effects and compression

if you're gonna use a software 303 emu (ABL) here are some tips to keep it as authentic as possible:
use the internal sequencer!
use a midicontroller map the 6 knobs to it and record the automation as you would if it was a real 303, tweak those knobs!

Up until last week I was sequencing in my DAW.
Then I started doing it live in Phoscyon and the tracks came alive.
A major component of the 303 sound is the sequencer.

Nithonat - TR-606 - Used a lot more than people realise in Acid techno. It was cheaper than the 808 and 909. It compliments either very well - a 606 with a 909 sounds as great as a 606 with an 808 - put an 808 and 909 together though and things start to mush a bit.


Drumazon is their 909 clone. Nepheton their 808. Don't know where they came up with these names from, but I think they are great. When I get the money, I'm gonna buy them all - probably Nithonat first - so sweet, but cutting, and also very very tweakable.


But Drumazon has that low end boom. Nepheton that crisp snare - such wonderful emulations.



Wasn't that all acid house was? a 303, and 808, a 908, maybe a 606, possibly a TR-727 or TR-707. Interestingly I don't think anyone does emulations of those last two.

I had a TR-505. Boy, never mind the samples, you should have heard the patterns, it was like a monkey avoiding a snake on acid. 10 years later, my programming got better, now it's pretty good, but f***, after three decades you would imagine anyone would get there eventually.

Also you can get free ComputerMusic Edition of Audiorealizm Drum Machine http://www.audiorealism.se/adm/index.htm with any ComputerMusic magazine.
It contain 606 emulation only and some interesting samples.

It seems we're talking about different styles of acid music here. I know nothing of what came after acid house (I kinda moved toward deep/vocal house myself) but I suppose a track like AAcid Tracks by Phuture is pretty much a reference point when trying to nail the original 80s sound

When I did mine, this one was was defenitely my main inspiration along Bam Bam's "Where is your child".

The latter still scares me to death - it's just pure evil!

Well, it's actually easier to get acid sounds due the new 18dB LowPass filter that many 303 aficionados know it is the type used on the classic Roland TB.

For anything else, just get AudioRealism ABL
