Hi,

Camel Audio is pleased to announce the release of Alchemy Mobile v1.1.35, an update to their free iOS app.

Image

This update adds keyboard scales, an easy to use slide out keyboard menu, a larger menu for the iPad version and various bug fixes.

Additional new features integrate with Alchemy v1.50 for Mac/PC including polyphonic pitch bend for expressive, unique control of the desktop synth - especially when combined with polyphonic aftertouch - and improved Alchemy desktop preset import via single bundled file.

Alchemy Mobile users should note this is the last update compatible with iOS 4 so please update to iOS 5 if you want to continue receiving updates.

Camel Audio is also running a mini-sale for five days, with a 60% discount on three of the electronic Alchemy Mobile Sound Libraries. Dubstep, Dance & Trance and BigTone are available as in-app purchases for just USD 1.99 / EUR 1.59 / GBP 1.49 (regular price USD 4.99 / EUR 3.99 / GBP 2.99).

The update should be available to download from iTunes now or over the next 24 hours. If you have any questions please let us know by posting here or contacting Camel Audio support.

Peace,
Camel Audio.

If you use the Pro version to control the Alchemy plugin, does the keyboard now transmit midi notes?

Post

It always has done

Yes it does (MIDI was added to a previous update). Even better - this latest Mobile version transmits polyphonic note bends to Alchemy 1.50 which can also be recorded as host automation.

Combined with poly at as a modulation source, this provides truly expressive playing not available with many other keyboards / synth combinations.

Peace,
Andy.

You should not have to download anything again and any projects you have saved will be preserved.

Nice update, thanks :)
and now the complains

a) I'd love to have a volume slider, a slider for the device and one for the instrument, makes it easier to use with other synth in background.

Nice to see a scaled keybed, that's one of the best part when using a touchscreen device.
b) I wouldn't mind to see all note names, these scales brain implants are still a bit expensive.

c) I preferred the hold and bend switches on the bar, as this is something I used while playing.

No worries ...

This was a minor update to Alchemy Mobile. The next one is going to be "major". I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'll find out what we can do about that. Seems logical to have a "display note names" option on the new keyboard config panel.

Yes, I agree with this and asked for the lock button to stay on the main screen but was overruled. I'll ask again for it to be put back, as it's a neat performance tool.

Peace,
Andy.

If I connect Wifi with Alchemy vst through the presets menu, and then activate Midi Out, then I can't select the presets through the iPad app anymore :?

I can reproduce this bug, it's happening when there is no network MIDI connection between the iOS device and the PC or Mac running Alchemy. This is probably a bug that we can fix so I've created a case.

Regardless of the bug, to use MIDI Out from Alchemy Mobile to desktop Alchemy the following steps are required to enable a network MIDI session.

Mac

1. Open Audio MIDI setup
2. Show the MIDI window
3. Double-click the Network icon
4. Add a session if one does not exist
5. Select the iOS device in the "directory" list
6. Click "Connect"

Windows

1. Download and install rtpMIDI
2. Run the app
3. Add a session if one does not exist
4. Select the iOS device in the "directory" list
5. Click "Connect"

Once the network MIDI connection has been established notes will be sent from Alchemy Mobile to desktop Alchemy via the network. This also enables recording of MIDI notes from Alchemy Mobile to your host, polyphonic pitch bend with Alchemy 1.50, and presets will load correctly when using the Alchemy Mobile left / right buttons.

I'll check our FAQ section and add notes if not already included. Let me know if you have any questions.

Peace,
Andy.

Thanks for the info!
But I use the IO Dock's midi. rtpmidi lost connection with the iPad regularly, and often I need to reboot my laptop so it would 'find' the iPad again.
The great thing about Alchemy Mobile is that it's wifi connection is very solid! Though I'd rather have it support the Alesis IO dock midi, so I can do away with the network connection altogether.
Btw. (off-topic, sort of) Any idea how I can get my laptop on my network (through a router), without it being on internet?

OK, I see what you mean - thanks for the additional info.

The Alesis IO dock is compatible with Core MIDI so it's supported. What you need to do is open the MIDI Configuration page in Alchemy Mobile and make sure the Alesis IO dock is enabled for MIDI out on the correct channel (usually channel 1 but depends on host configuration).

The bug is occurring because Alchemy Mobile is attempting to send a bank / program change message to a port that is not enabled for MIDI output. So it is a bug but can be fixed with the correct configuration.

Let me know if it's still causing a problem.

You don't need to be connected to the internet for this to work. It should be possible to create an "ad-hoc" network between your PC and IOS device. This is a direct connection between the 2 systems and is much better for latency. Obviously you will need a wireless adaptor in your PC or a wireless access point (WAP) on the same LAN the PC is connected to.

Andy.

I wish FL Studio started supporting pass-through of Midi CC's :?

I know, but with ad-hoc I can't reach the rest of my network
