Damn you Simon I am going to have to investigate Iris! I'd pretty much managed to avoid it up to now but you keep on putting out such wonderful demos ...

Hey guys,

I have a question for you about Iris. I am really enjoying this instrument (I bought Iris+2), especially using drones and loops captured from my modular synth. Is there a way to stop and hold a point on a loop? I would like to be able to play a note (or chord) and have the loop play until a certain point wrt time on the spectrogram and hold (sustain) there until I release the note or chord. I do not see a way to place a sustain point like this on a loop.

I don't really understand your question - at the top of the GUI you have the loop Bar, by dragging the left and right handles you set the loop point, at the bottom of the GUI there is a crossfade function for normal forward loops.
You can't set several loop points like e.g. in Kontakt. Right clicking into the sample opens a menue where you can choose: "Set loop points to selection" which will automatically set the loop to the borders of your spectral selection.

On note on, the loop starts playing from the left loop point if forward loop direction is set or from the right loop point if reverse loop direction is set. If the note is held, the loop continues scanning and playing the spectrogram until it reaches the sustain point. At the sustain point it continues playing the frequency slice at the sustain point as long as the note or notes are held.. On note off it resumes scanning the spectrogram with volume set by the decay portion of the envelope. In this way the slice of the spectrogram at the sustain point becomes something like a single cycle waveform that is held until note off.

AFAIK Iris doesn't do that I which I described. In order to have a sustained pad sound without too much movement, you have to place your loop points in a judicious spot and/or choose the right sample. Sometimes I want movement and sometimes I want something held continuously until a note or chord is released.

Well no single instrument can be everything in my opinion. Iris has taken me into new directions with making and processing sounds, both with patches for my hardware modular and with processing the recorded sounds.

Hey, can you make a two hour long demo please, i need to meditate/sleep :D It sounded like a national geographic documentary where they dropped a camera in an alien ocean to seek the creatures ... some alien planet far, far away. Fun to imagine what they look at listening to demo 2 where each patch represent one of them. Some scary fish at the end! :D
