This looks good. Is there a version for mac?

No Mac version at the moment.

Interesting topic.

I used to own both a Yamaha DX7II, and TX802 FM synths in the early 90's . Great sounding FM synths.

So far I have tried to get some of those sparkly, plucky, bright Strings sounds that the TX802 and DX7II were able to produce via FM8, but it just can't emulate the real thing, the high frequencies sound horribly thin, and flat/dead compared to the YAMAHA FM hardware.

I would love to see a new VST3 (FM) synth developed by YAMAHA & Steinberg that can accurately emulate these classic Hardware YAMAHA FM synths.

Actually, I did put that as a request in the Steinberg forum request thread for Cubase 7 ! So, maybe Steinberg will offer this as a standard new FM synth in Cubase 7, in addition to offering it as VST Instrument for other DAW users.

Cheers,

The final result: virtualy no difference, with FM8 sounding a little better than hardware. Amazing VSTi. Nothing can compare with it.
Funny. I know all of them, so I know that 1. there is a huge difference (between all those hardware units as well), and 2. FM7/FM8 sounds like crap compared to all of them.
Trance sounds better than Heavy Metal. That's a well known fact too.
