assign cc 07 to external keyboard?

I KNOW I had this working at one time, but now I can't remember how I did it. I have a vmk-176 midi controller hooked into a laptop running Cantabile Performer using a M-Audio Midisport 2x2. I also have a midi cable going out of the midisport into a Korg M50.

My VMK controls my Korg just fine, but for some reason I can't get knob assigned to cc07 to change the volume on the Korg.

It's got to be something simple, but I don't see it!
